The painting is my tribute to the original cover art by Don Lowry.
What do you think? I have many more to come.

I made a new version that more closely resembles the original by raising the right pikeman's spear and re-doing the left pikeman's robe. I gave it some stormy blue lighting and a wooden frame too.

Here's my next one. I kinda jumped ahead in chronology a bit, but it's for a separate project too. Anyway, it's an interior illustration this time. I'll be doing less of these than covers.

The beholder is great - like the one without the forest background the best.

Cthulhu is excellent! The experiment with the color reverse is looking good. Undecided yet whether i like EO's original b/w or the reverse you have. And can't help but wonder what the picture would look like with greens added in.

Cheers!

Axe looks like it is held wrong, the pinkie finger should be closer to the body and the index finger closer to the viewer.

Yeah, I did screw up the perspective on that, didn't I.
I'll fix it.

I don't know about that.  I kind of like it.  Take a look at many baseball batters.  Before they take their swing as the pitcher is getting the sign, they hold the bat loose.  This fighter could be stalking or sneaking and is holding the axe loose so as to not drain his fingers of blood and grip right before the battle.  I say keep it, but it's your piece. 8)

The axe handle can't go in that direction with how its held unless its 'L' shaped.

P'raps the axe is for striking around corners.   :D

I like the illustration anyway.  It reminds me of paintings with multiple perspectives.  It's not quite cubism, but it is something similar.  I am also glad the warrior has no spiky bits and distractions that say "Look at me!  I am so rich and flashy that I should die first!"
