It looks like the pic from my post in that thread was removed.
So I'll post it here.

Thanks for posting this kevin. I've never read the whole thing before. Lots of small continuity 'errors', but what can you expect from an advertisement?

Some interesting tidbits:
*The names of Valerius the fighter and Grimslade the Magic-User make reference to the Erol Otus and Harold Johnson characters in the original Rogues Gallery (although their appearance is quite different). Saren the Cleric is possibly derived from Serten the Cleric.
*The characters start in "Zenopus castle" - a clear reference to the Sample Dungeon in the original Basic Book
*Pages 3-8 are by Willingham; page 2 might be by Jeff Dee; page 1 is by ?
*The fourth page above is much better quality than the others, and has Willingham's signature on it. Is it from this Marvel reprint, which has "Willingham credits added 2005 by Steven Tice"
*The elf wins the prize for changing appearance the most. He starts as a "Keebler Elf" but gets taller and taller as the series goes on, his hair goes from blond to brown to blond to brown again, and he wears at least three different hats.
*Here are all of the proper names, extracted for use in your campaign:
Valerius the Fighter
Grimslade the Magic-User
Indel the Elf
the ruins of Zenopus Castle
Saren the Cleric (or Healer)
the Great Sword Naril (derived from Tolkien's Narsil?)
Gavin's Inn
Grindal (mentor of Grimslade)
Oakthorn (werebird or magic-user?)
the Black Swamp of Lobella
the Mountains of Ash

Just found this article by James Mishler, posted one year ago, that discusses these strips:

BTW, if anyone knows the actual names of the artwork posted earlier, please chime in.  For example, I doubt the Easley piece was named "Dungeoneer's Survival Guide" (though it may have been, if it was specifically commissioned for the book).  I'd expect something along the lines of "Trouble at Derro Gulch" or somesuch.

No,  every comic that one page appeared in was on the inside back cover, therefore it was the only one that got the glossy, good paper treatment.

How weird is it that I posted it here one day shy of the 1 year anniversary of his post. Thanks for finding that because it gave me some more info on the credits. I wonder what "COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE #1615" has to say.
I wonder why he never posted the last 4 pages. I posted it on Fabletown on  May 29, 2006, and neither Willingham or any of his fans have made any comments yet. They eventually removed the image. This is what I posted over there. Maybe someone here can post an answer.
"These 8 pages appeared in Marvel comics from May 1981 to June 1982. Unfortunately there wasn't a conclusion. The 8th part was repeated for the next 10 months. Does anyone know if the conclusion page was ever illustrated, and if so, why it was never printed?"

OK, I've screwed up here. That was obviously not the art used for Players Handbook with Ringlerun, it's the art for Dungeon Masters Guide 2E. This is the closest I can find.

Here is a better quality Greyhawk Adventures.

Does anyone recognize this image?

This might help.

OK, here it is.

The painting is my tribute to the original cover art by Don Lowry.
What do you think? I have many more to come.

I made a new version that more closely resembles the original by raising the right pikeman's spear and re-doing the left pikeman's robe. I gave it some stormy blue lighting and a wooden frame too.
