The Tracy Lesch cover is the one on the left, the 1st printing.  The art credits on the inside are C. Lesch, T. Lesch, J. Seaton and K. Batey.

In the second print, I don't see a signature anywhere on the cover art and inside it does not specify who did the cover.  The illustrators for the 2nd print include the original 4 above and add D. Sutherland, D. Trampier, and D. Nolte.

Thank you,
Kevin

I'd like to see how much was cropped off.

Aaron said there's no displacement, it's all there on the cover.

Well that's good. I'd still love to see a pic though.

This is my guess at how much was cropped from Monster Manual.

I've organized my collection of the digest sized books so I can find things now :)  The full sized ones still need some work though.

brute wrote:Wow, those paintings (DMG and AC5) are AWESOME!!! Thanks for posting. Does anyone have server space they would temporarily dedicate to hosting the full res image of them (esp AC5) for download? Apologies in advance if this is not a legal request...

With permission from the two guys who edited the photos to correct the perspective, I'd be happy to put both of these in the Artwork Museum on the site.

Additionally, if anyone knows more of the particulars (how big they are, what the medium was, any other places either artwork appeared other than DMG and AC5), I'll include that info as well.

Foul - you certainly have my permission to host the AC5 picture I posted above.  However, the original file I have is ~9x6 inches with a resolution of only 72 pixels / inch. I think the resolution is that low because of the source material - I was working with an auction photo that was posted here (or Ebay? I can't remember as I did this a while ago).

I hosted this file on tinypic.com in order to post it in the thread above. When I drag the image back to my desktop, the copy is the same size as the one I already have. So I think what you are seeing is the best I have.

Does anyone remember who has the original?

I was under the impression that Paul has the original DMG, does he not?

Bclarkie: I meant the AC5 - I'm sorry I wasn't clear.

Paul also asked me if I had a higher resolution picture of the AC5.  :D

He does.  I'll ask him for the specifics I mentioned above.

Both pics were sufficient for my purposes; I've limited the scans to either 700 pixels wide, or 585 tall, whichever comes first.  I just now resized both pics, and they only had to be enlarged a slight amount.

Here are my pics that you can use.
DMG by DCSIII.

This is a comparison of the cover to D1-2 by Roslof and his remake 25 years later.

Dungeon! by Roslof.
Image
The 6 Dungeon! prototypes. Each image has been straightened out, color corrected and some paint splotches have been removed.

This is the original art for the back cover to S2 blended with the module pic at the top, where it was missing.

Wow. I had no idea Willingham originally intended to have a woman grabbing his leg! Is that Cymoril or Zarozinia?

Where did you find the picture of that art?

It looks like the pic from my post in that thread was removed.
So I'll post it here.

Very nice.  Thanks!

Are all of these pics actual paintings in existence?  Where'd you find them?

DMG, AC5, Unearthed Arcana, S2, D1-2 remake, UK Basic and all the Dungeon!'s were pics of the actual art taken from here and other website forums. The various Easleys are from the Art of AD&D book. I've got some more art books with Elmore paintings I've got to scan in.

What about the Willingham piece?  That must be the original from someone's personal collection, right?
