I have been collecting scans of the cover art to everything relating to Dungeons & Dragons for quite awhile now, but there are a few pieces that have alluded me so far. I'm hoping someone here can help with some scans. I still need the back covers to the monochrome versions of modules: B1, C2, G2, G3, D1, D2 & D3.
I also need the back cover art to the 1979 DM Screens. http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/miscpag ... scrn2.html It's a gatefold spread by David A Trampier featuring the Demon Idol from the Players Handbook.
And lastly, a few Gen Con Programs. I've got XIII through XVII, but XVI is a pre-registration program. I've also got the pre-reg of XIV. What I am looking for is XII and earlier, only if they have cover art, XVI non-pre-reg, and the pre-reg (if there are any) of XIII, XV & XVII. I'm not interested in any after XVII.
I am working on an art book of my own paintings that are inspired by old school D&D art, giving credit to the original artists for each piece. They aren't copies of the works, but my own interpretations of them. The book will have close to 200 pages of paintings, covering 1971 - 1983, with 9 pages dealing with 1984 - 1988.
You may remember these pictures I did:
viewtopic.php?t=3770&highlight=mayle
Those items are no longer in my store, but you can still see them all on the front page. The art in this new book I'm working on will not resemble the originals as closely, because I want to put my own style into it. You can see more of my work here:
http://kevinmayle.netaidz.com/main.php
The book will also feature extensive text explaining each piece.
I hope you can help me with these remaining scans needed to complete my book prototype that I am using to work from.
Thank you,
Kevin Mayle

Well, that is easy enough.  I was just helping Plaag with some back scans of monochrome modules.  He was interested in specific prints, but the art is the same.

Go to:

http://www.beyondthebreach.com/shane

All the scans on this page are back cover - just find the monochrome's you need.

Oh yeah . . . and note that the C2 I have is the color version!  You'll need help from someone other than me to get the back scan of that!  :D

Does the 1st print of C2 even have a product list?

I'm not sure which one you need, so here a two different Screen scans:

I need to pay more attention to this strand.  I didn't notice you needed shots of the original DM's Screen.

There was a movie posted on this forum back...about three months ago...of some French Canadian players getting together after one guy had been away for some years.....

The DM in that movie had a DM's Screen with a totally different design than any I have seen....I assume it was a French language version.

Thanks for the interest! I will.
It looks like now all I need is the back cover to the monochrome C2 and any of those GenCon programs I mentioned.

I could also use some help with identifying artist credits. This is the list of items that do not have signatures, credit on the inside (of the ones I've been able to check), or credit listed at pen-paper.net. Some of them I can guess by styles and who was working at the time, but I'd like to be sure.
TSR Lizard logo, Wizard logo & Face logo.
Chainmail Fantasy Supplement interior art (2 pics of knight vs dragon).
Domesday Book #13 cover.
1974 OD&D Box cover, 1975 OD&D Box cover.
Gods, Demigods & Heroes cover.
Monochrome module front cover art to G3, S2, Lost Caverns of Tsjoconth.
Monochrome module back cover art to G1, G2, S1, S2, C2.
Module front cover art to N1, U1, U2.
Module back cover art to S4, C1, I1, N1.
Monster & Treasure Assortment 3 cover.
Dragon Dice card backing from 1981.
Quadrille Graph Paper cover.
Dungeon! 1975 (landscape design) box cover.
Dungeon! 1976 (portrait design) box cover.
Strategic Review #7 cover.
The Dragon issue 1 cover.
Revolt on Antares (minigame) cover.
Viking Gods (minigame) cover.

Thanks,
Kevin

Reading through some past posts, I see that the original art for the cover to Gods, Demigods & Heroes sold at Gen Con in 2005. If any of you were there, do you recall who they said the artist was?

Edit: I found the answer - Sutherland

Jim Holloway did the Viking Gods minigame cover.

This thread has a post where I list out the back cover artists on the mono vs color modules:

viewtopic.php?p=65141&highlight=#65141

Changes in Back Cover Art of Modules

Mono version --> Color version

B1 - Sutherland [watchtower of Quasqueton] --> Darlene [troglodyte battle]

C1 - Otus --> Artist? [different artists but similar subject - wizard confronting invisble coatl on pyramid; the front cover of tournament Tamochan also features coatl on pyramid by Sutherland]

D1 - Sutherland [troll, trogolodyte and bugbear "smiling" at the viewer]

D2 - Sutherland [wizard and a warrior looking shocked while a rust monster causes the warriors shield to disintegrate] --> D1,2 - Willingham [mind flayer/"Scarlet Witch" casting Color Spray]

D3 - Trampier --> Jeff Dee [Silussa Succubus & Belgos Vampire Drow]

G1 - Trampier ? [exterior of Hill Giant Steading]

G2 - Trampier /Sutherland? [aerial view of Glacial Rift]

G3 - Trampier [warriors with hippogriffs at entrance door to the Hall]--> G1-3 - mini pictures of front covers of G1, G2, and G3

S1 - Sutherland --> Otus [party with wizard about to put his head into the Sphere of Annihilation]

S2 - Otus [adventurering party approaching White Plume Mtn - same party featured in interior Otus pics] --> Willingham ["Elric" with Blackrazor sword]

T1 - Trampier [workers toiling in field around two-storied tower of Rufus the Mage and Burne the Fighter]--> Jeff Dee [Rufus and Burne in front of tower - same as 1984 PC Record Sheets front cover]

C2 "mono" (the tourney version) has no back cover art (see above thread).

Quadrille Graph Paper cover.

We discussed this at one point here:

viewtopic.php?p=56129&highlight=#56129

Possibly Alex Nuckols, but no definitive answer.

I don't have Revolt on Antares, but the cover art is unmistakenably Jeff Dee.

N1, front - Timothy Truman; back - not sure, but I'd guess Harry Quinn
U1 and U2, front - Dave DeLeuw
S4, back - Jim Holloway
I1, back - Jim Roslof
C1 (color), back - ?

Wow! What a tremendous help. Thanks.

While you're back, zhowar, do you happen those Dungeon! scans you mentioned here? viewtopic.php?p=71846&highlight=#71846

And I noticed some new items I didn't know about while reading that Quadrille thread, the Dungeons & Dragons Playing Aids Binder & 2 Folders. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... Track=true

bclarkie, could you provide cover scans of those? I'd like to add those to my book as well.

On a related note, I found the ad for the Playing Aids  and graph paper was in Dragon Magazine issue 54, from October 1981, and said "from St Regis Consumer Products, Artwork by Alex Nuckols".

This is my list of remaining credits needed:

TSR Lizard logo, Wizard logo & Face logo.

Chainmail Fantasy Supplement interior art (2 pics of knight vs dragon).

Domesday Book #13 cover.

1974 OD&D Box cover, 1975 OD&D Box cover.

Monochrome module front cover art to G3, S2, Lost Caverns of Tsjoconth.

Monster & Treasure Assortment 3 cover.

Dragon Dice card backing from 1981.

Dungeon! 1975 (landscape design) box cover.

Dungeon! 1976 (portrait design) box cover.

Strategic Review #7 cover.

The Dragon issue 1 cover.

Thanks,

Kevin
