stephen - my mate andy was there in april - they went from there to do the north pole marathon (he came 4th!)

the photos are just beyond words - simply spectacular!

needless to say...thats on my "list of things to do" - but at 5000 euros to get there (through the russian camp as they control the area and the cost)...not just now :)

Spitzbergen! I am envious. I lived for a year in Norway and spent a month above the arctic circle - never made it that far north though - plan to one day!

I've honestly wanted to visit Spitsbergen for a while now.  What would I do there? I have no idea, but the scenery has always looked simply stunning. :D

I like it.  Why not Spitzenbergen as a holiday?

The local PBS station had a checklist of holidays to greet the viewers.

Last night was the winter solstice, for any pagan viewers.  The list included Kwanzaa (invented out of thin air in very recent times) and Festivus.

Anyone remember where Festivus came from?
