Run your hand over the cover of that Player's Handbook.  It looks like one of the higher quality printings with the tougher, more elastic material over the cardboard.  Can you feel a light texture to the cover?

It's a bit difficult to tell due to all the 'engraving' from use as a blotter, but the area near the spine does indeed have a texture.

Oh, and this is not one of those copies with shading on the reference sheets in the back.

Newest acquisition:
** expired/removed eBay auction **

The photo is washed out. The items are a bit more 'used' than is shown, but I expected such. Box is in pretty good shape. Only mild-moderate indentation top and bottom, one corner has begun to tear (only about 1/5th the way presently), some fraying on a couple of the corners. The books are probably approaching VG+ to Fine-- condition, with only a few notes and 'oops' marks which can be remedied, plus some staple rust.

The seller also included an extra copy of M&T and U&WA which appear to be 5th prints. Same as the 6th prints as far as markings and staple rust, but just more used, probably VG-- to VG.

Edit: Forgot to mention the lack of Ref Sheets. Yes, I know I'm making this an obnoxious habit, but if anyone has an extra copy or two...

Damn good buy for $30.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

That was a good price.

As for the reference sheets:  Does anyone have an extra copy?  8O

Extra copies would seem less likely than a number of sets lacking the reference sheets...which probably got laid aside early.

That assumes that people actually used the white box for gaming.  I got a suspicion that there were few actual white box games.

Not strictly RPG, but TSR & Dragonlance related. Just picked up a played once copy of Dragonlance the boardgame for just a few pence over £4 inc S&H!  Rather pleased with that considering their normal sale prices that I have seen...

I passed one up at $25 and now I was happy to find one at $35.

The price seems to have gone down on these and I wanted to see what they did to my favorite module. (I will dig into it tonight).

I recently just got a few cool things I'm really happy about:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

In fantastic shape with BOTH slip covers... priced seemed a little high... but with the free shipping it seemed worth it to me. I needed an extra copy of the Chronicles anyway to give to my young cousin as a present... so I gave him my tattered set and I'll be keeping these beauties on my shelf.

** expired/removed eBay auction **

I know it's missing some figures but these tend to go for WAY TOO much and I needed some female figures for my game. God I love the Grenadier Gold Series!

** expired/removed eBay auction **

been looking for a minty one of these for a while... they are always so beat.

This item arrived today.

Now I am feeling like I am in a bit of a moral dilemma. The P&P was just 0.99p but the item was packaged sufficiently to resist a thermal attack. Also, knowing its weight, it probably cost the guy in excess of £5 to post as it was here within 48hrs.

I think he has lost out all round and has effectively paid for someone to take the game away.  8O   I toyed with dropping him a line to cover P&P, but tbh, on the few things I sell, I make sure that at least the postage costs are covered.
Any thoughts?

Dave - paypal a coupla quid shipping, out of the blue - call it D&D karma.

(I've done this on occasions and my decent deals way outweigh the occasional psycho - if the balance changes perhaps I'd rethink! :D )

Sweet deal but then the seller stuffs it a bubble envelope after assuring me it would be packaged to protect it from damage.

The GW Boxed set had the bottom creased in four spots. The corners survived but the box lid already had two of them taped so they were able to spread out some instead of tearing.

It wasn't steamrolled, but weight was put at the center of the top and bottom and you can see the stress lines now on the corners of the top as well.

I had a similar situation about a month back from a seller. Except this person just put it in a normal flimsy mailer and one single piece of bubble wrap inside on the top of the box -- as if that was going to stop any and all damage during shipment.  I swear some people have no common sense  :x

I now contact each seller before paying and ask them to tell me how the item will be packaged to prevent it from being bent or damaged in shipping.

It still doesn't help all the time but I feel better about leaving a neg if they have clearly lied to me about packaging.
