Wow, that was a good weekend!

Walked into a local store, and must have lucked into it perfectly, just after they had put out a new collection.  I pulled out lots of common items that I didn't have - I'll skip mentioning those - and also these highlights:

Complete Book Of Necromancers
H2 - 3 copies!
H3 - 2 copies!
H4 - 2 copies!
A Paladin In Hell (shrink)
Labyrinth Of Madness (shrink)

(and one good non-TSR find - MERP Northern Mirkwood 1st print)

Nice stuff, sure, but the price was the crazy part... $40 total.   8O  8)

Tangent: I grabbed the Monte Cook items because they were shrinked.  I know I can trade or resell them, but are they good adventures/reads, such that I should keep them?

Thanks!

I think I was away for a few days and missed this too.  Couple questions:

1) Is the Pandora's Dice wheel plastic?  Is the box plain white?

2) What comes in this version of the TSR Press Kit and what year is it (I don't have this one)?

The dice wheel came in the original shipping box postmarked August 1987.  The one I got is plastic but the paperwork indicates that a wood and brass version was available.

The sales kit is from 1993.  Most of the boring stuff you'd expect... catalog, ad slicks, sales sheets and so forth.

Thanks Adrian!  When I talked with Bob Liddil a while back he mentioned that wood/brass ones were also produced so it is still on my want list but I have never seen one.  I have now seen about a dozen of the plastic ones (and own one) but even they are quite rare - there are a few different versions/colours and some come with special boxes, etc.

IMO, A Paladin in Hell is really great. Labyrinth is pretty good, too, and has IIRC pictures in the middle like Tomb of Horrors had.

Keep them, DE-SHRINK them and read them.

Bite your tongue, Gnat.  :)  There are plenty of de-flowered copies already on Ebay.

If you want to dispose of them, I need a shrink copy of each.  Send me a PM if you want cash or I can trade you something from my store on RPGMarketPlace.com.

I can't remember if mine was wood or plastic. It did come with faerie dust!

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

Heh - thanks for the opinion.   :D

I have come across a few shrinked items lately, and for the ones I actually want to keep, I'm planning to offer them for opened copies (plus a tiny something) if they help fill holes for a shrink collector.

Wasn't it just the Penthouse letters that started with 'I never thought this would happen to me..."

So I'm cruising the used books stores in small town Ontario when I pop into a tiny little comic book shop... the hand-written sign in the window said 'role-playing games'.  Sure enough, at the back was a bookshelf with the 4E books on a couple of shelves, and a stack of dog-eared Dragons on the floor... I leafed through just long enough to spot a light green Ghost Tower  8O

I was shaking by the time I got to the register - I thought for sure the clerk behind the counter would know what it was... or another customer would spot it - there was no way I'd get out with it.  Luckily there was a Lankhmar book too so I could check out with a 'stack' for misdirection

The price tag on the modules said 25... and I thought my luck had run out when the clerk looked at the sticker and said "Sorry, bud, I can't sell you those for 25... cents!  How about five bucks for both?"   8O

Wowsers... I've had fun finds before, but never anything remotely close to this rare an item in such an unexpected place for such an unbelievable price.  It was a pretty lucky day - Lankhmar even came with the map book

Anyway, thanks for letting me share my story :)

Fantastic find!!

So what's the going rate one one of these now? (According to the rares page a 'good' one is $608, is this about right?)

Also - you should have stuck to your guns and only paid 25 cents - it's criminal that the clerk bumped up the price tenfold 8O  :D  8O

You can never have too much of something you didn't need in the first place.

Unless there are any hidden faults, $1400-1700 should be about right. Now you know why "tiny little comic book shops" are going out of business. ;)

That reminds me I need to stop into the used book store next week, the place smells funny but you never know what someone will bring in to trade!

Congratulations on the find David!

Wow - that's a great and lucky day!

Actually, that's so good that I might feel a little bad about it.  If it's a store you actually like, go back soon and see if they have any other comics or whatever that you'd be interested in - spend a few more bucks there.

I'm not saying you should have revealed anything - a seller should research an item before assigning a price.  But they did miss a huge opportunity, and spending another $50 there won't really hurt you.

Besides, it's self serving; if these little stores close, this sort of stuff will all move to ebay.  And I don't think you'd get it for $5 in an open auction.
