On the surface this seems like a wash at best. I was simply looking for a decent copy of FR HC - yeah, I know that makes all one of me. :D

They arrived today and I flipped through them real quick. And damn it, looked liked the owner wrote their name in blue ink on the flyleaf. But wait...looks like and aweful lot of writing. Well, what do you know, it is autographed by Grubb and Greenwood 8O

Without offending any of you autograph hounds - I generally would never go out of my way to get an autographed book. And I would never ask for one. But this was a what I would a call a fun find, nevertheless.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

I found an almost-complete copy of the first Forgotten Realms boxed set.  It's missing one of the two hex transparencies.

Apparently, the missing transparent hex map grew to a Kara-Tur Trail Map, complete with folder.  :)

I just got the 3 core books (MM, PHB, DMG) all Wizard logo, not sure of the printings... for a whopping $15.

I plan to give them as gifts, Unless they turn out to be earlier prints.

Seemed like a good buy to me.

Just bought a 2nd print DMG, which, I am hoping beyond all hope, it is an alpha or beta. :) If not, no big deal, since I needed it anyway... but, one can always dream to get a cheapie and have it turn into something sweet.

I think I have a spare transparency, Brian:  I'll dig around this weekend and see if that's the case.

Am curious if the transparent hex maps come only numbered: 1031XXX0705 for this box set and XXXXXXX0701 for other Forgotten Realms box set and any other FR related box sets.

Hmmm.  This is the first FR boxed set, and it is numbered XXXXXXX0701.  Firk-ding-dangit.

Does it have a Response card, Secrets of the Sages card, TSR Mag Advertisement Sheet?  I know they have different dates on the Advertisement Sheets, would have to look again on the other.

(Edit: yeah Secrets of the Sages card should also have a year on it, in this case 1987.  I have another set which has the generic transparent hex sheets and a TSR Mag Advertisement Sheet with 1988, but that I don't know if its Frankensteined or not since the books still are 1987)

Beats me what printing mine is . . . it looks Frankensteined first/second, but my brain is completely fried:

Incomplete:
- No "Secret of the Sages" card
- Only one clear hex map XXXXXXX0701 (no date)

Frankenstein:
- Angled, gold-outline TSR logo on box and books (1987)
- Green response card (no date)
- Maps are 1031XXX0701 through 0704 (1987)
- "Join the Crusade!" TSR magazines subscription form (1988)
- 1991 TSR catalog
- GE Information Services flyer for GEnie online service??? (1990)

I used to have one of these but I foolishly parted with it years ago.

If you don't have one of these CD sets, get one. These are absolutely amazing to have. At the very least it is a pdf of the complete Strategic Review and the first 250 Dragon mags. 5 Discs instead of 5 or more magazine boxes. And even if you have a collection of the mags, having the pdfs at hand, truly amazing.

I bought one in origional box with all the stuff inside.. about $130 I believe.. I held out for a "complete" example rather than just the case and CD's.. I don't see the point with shrink on this one as well.. but then you could say that about every module in shrink as well..

Brette:)

The nice thing about the CD set is that the booklet is included as one of the pdfs.

I'd be happy to let you know.  What are you hoping to learn?

Odd since that's the overlays for the FR campaign set, but maybe what they had before the universal ones.

Just curious if these have the product code on them or are the universal ones given the code XXXXXXX0701.
