Used RPG section of a FLGS - just sitting in the bins with other stuff.

For those with long memories, this is a different store than the one where I stumbled upon the POTVQ 5th for about the same price.  But it does mean there are at least two stores near me that have no one on staff with knowledge of gaming material.

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

Havent had much in the way of "fun finds" recently but I got this in the mail today:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170701823867?ss ... 1439.l2649

I've already got a TSR Woodgrain Tractics but I've been looking for an affordable Guidon version for awhile.  The fun part about this is it came with a copy of Fast Rules which has been difficult to find.  And it also has a 1972 catalog from Simulations Publications and advertisements from Guidon Games.  The price doesnt hurt either.  :D

Got my copy of Gaxmoor in the mail today and read it cover-to-cover while my son was at football practice.

I was a little disappointed.
I thought it was written for C&C, but it's actually a 3.5E setting written by the Gygaxes (Gygaxi?) for TLG.

Still, it was worth $9.
And it's in pristine shape.

Keith---

There was some info posted about how to use Gaxmoor in Greyhawk---it's original inspiration, basically; I can try to dig it up if you're interested?

What was disappointing about Lost City of Gaxmoor?  The system?  The lack of connection to Greyhawk?

Yes, and yes.

I was expecting it to be written for C&C since it was published by TLG.
(That's my own fault.  The description was clear enough in hindsight.)

And the background wasn't to my liking.  The city was miniaturized, then brought back by some evil god, then everything goes to hell ...
I guess I was just expecting something different.

And yeah, I'd hoped it was more explicitly linked to Greyhawk.

Still, it's not all that bad, just different from what I thought it'd be.

No worries.

The whole "brought back by the gods" thing was just a way to insert a fairly intact classical Roman city into any given medieval game setting.  It is no more or less stupid than the rationales behind many classic  modules.

Lost City of Gaxmoor is a nice example of the power and flexibility of the 3.5 rules set.  (I wrote a review of this module. It's around here somewhere.)

I think I am less concerned about which rules set is used because I have played through all the iterations except 4th Edition.  Picking up a module and adapting it on the fly isn't such an issue to me.  What I care more about are the maps and the ideas.[/i]

It's hard to convey tone of voice in posts.
I didn't mean to sound quite so negative.
When I get a chance, I'll write up a review myself.
There are some good aspects to this setting.

Thanks,
Keith

Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd wander on over and mention my unreal find:

A complete white box Original Dungeons & Dragons set with three supplements (Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Eldritch Wizardry) and Chainmail.

For
One
Dollar

8)  8)  8)

I'm 100% serious about this!

Cheers,
JohnH aka Wandering Monster
