Tharizdun,

Nice purchase!  B9 purchased from Jane at WoW, right?  Good luck purchasing "Dragon Attack" by Caldwell.  It's a gorgeous piece.

You weren't kidding about the $$$!   8O

"dragontreasure" and "Sadie and Diamond' are two different individuals.  Actually, "dragontreasure" = two collectors with some nice Parkinsons in addition to the famous Elmores.

Pat!  Need some clarification on this.

Regards,
l.j.

I think it's the same seller who wants you to think it's different sellers :D
Not sure but I'd bet on it. I've bought from "both" sellers....

"Dragon Attack" rocks but I'm looking at another cover. I can afford $$$, not $$$$$$$$ :D
The cool thing about the art is that lots of the work was cropped. Most of my TSR stuff has about 20-40% more Artwork than appeared on the covers. I have one huge painting and I swear they only used 10%! I was shocked when it arrived and it had all these characters and monsters...
Ok, sorry this is on the Ebay thread guys. I'll disappear till next year 8)

I might have a copy somewhere.  D&D was just used to sell books and pad news reports.  There was no connection.

Yes, a long while ago.  Dear was the private detective hired by Egbert's family to locate the missing teen.  Unfortunately he inadvertedly added to the D&D furor by making some erroneous quotes and leading statements to the press at the time, really more speculations at the time, tht Dallas had become lost in the Steam tunnels below Michigan State U while playing D&D (which never happened). He never corrected his false theories until the book came out in 1984 (and after Egbert had already killed himself0.  His book is a fairly well balanced account but really pumps him up as the hero of the story, and it's obvious even after everything he still had/has very little knowledge of what D&D actually was.

I thought it was "dragontreasure" and not "Sadie and Diamond" who had the Dragonlance Elmore pieces?

"dragontreasure" sold a Parkinson painting to an Illustration Exchange member this summer, no?

l.j.

Same people, they just changed their name from dragontreasure to sadie.and.diamond
They sold a bunch of paintings earlier this year to a couple Illustration Exchange members through their eBay store and privately, pretty much cleaned out all their lower-priced Caldwells and Elmores, as well as a Parkinson.

7 hours to go and still a decent price... furthermore, pls be aware that in germany there is an extremely cheap shipping option for books! (in case you'd ask for it to the seller! it covers even overseas deliveries!)

It's a self contained RPG; it remains a cult classic among some, the box set is moderately hard to find complete.

It does have a cult following, but speaking as a cultist  my sense is that the 2nd edition (in one volume, perfect-bound) is more popular than the first edition (i.e. the boxed game in this Italian auction).  The movement & combat rules were complicated and 'wargamy' in the first edition (well, what do you expect from SPI?  The boxed game even comes with chits and a battlemat; hence the confusion); this chapter was much simplified in the second and subsequent editions.

When TSR took over SPI, DQ went into hiatus for circa 5 years.  TSR released a third edition in the late 80's, which added some additional magic rules and expunged all references to Hell, demons & devils.  A shame really, because the College of Greater Summonings (in the magic chapter) is chock full of authententic-seeming demonological details.  Jack Chick would have had a heart-attack. :)

Just had a second look at the auction, and I was wrong!     This is the second edition of DragonQuest, but in a box -- I've never seen that before, only the white books (hardbound & softcover).  This may well be a rarity.
