Hi,

I have R1 and R3 in sw, and they are both side-seam.

Very flat tho, not bowed.

And the shrink has a few round "breathe-holes" in it, which is different to the one in the picture.

Cheers,
malcolm

Yep, same with mine, not bowed at all and has the "breathe-holes".

My R2 and R3 have the side seams as well.  The R2 is from the TSR archives (copy 2) and the R3 was from Frank Menzter himself so I am quite confident they are genuine. :)

So you all are trying to say that none of these copies that you have have any seal along the back at all??? Like I said, it may be faint, like my G1 picture above, but it still should be there and if its not then there is almost no doubt in my mind that its a reshrink....

I'm fairly certain there is no horizontal seam, but will check again.

No seam whatsoever.  Breath holes are also present.  It looks like the shrink on the R mods was different than on the regular release mods.  At least one of us sheould be able to come up with a copy with a seal on the back don't you think?

Perhaps, but after running hundreds of shrinkwrap modules through my hands over the last 8+ years, I'd say its unlikely at best.  If thats the case though, maybe the RPGA had something to with the R modules being different, but that still would not explain the OB3 as the RPGA had nothing to do with that, so that doesn't even fit into the equation.   I can also tell you that I am sitting on 9 or 10 boxes large sized boxes lots of which are shrinked wrapped modules(primarily 1st edition ones at that) and with the exception of an apparent reshinked X1 that somehow slipped past me, all the 1st edition ones have a seal in the middle on the back side.

When was shrinkwrapping generally done? Was this done by the printer (presumably after the printing was checked by TSR), or TSR after they received the product?

Do we even know that any of the shrink'd OB3's were shrink'd by TSR? Perhaps they were all shrink'd by whoever rescued them destruction.

Frank M. could probably confirm the shrinkwrapping on the R series. Presumably he has some in original shrink that he obtained as soon as they were available.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the person I bought my OB3 from got it from Noble Knight.  For what it's worth, that's purportedly where the seller of the s/w R1 got it.

Seller reports that the printing address is Belfast, Maine.  So, that would make it a 2nd-2nd, right?

Shrink on my OB3, R1, 2 & 3 all no horizontal seam. All have breathing holes.

Shrink on my R2 looks very similar to the R1 that's up. Maybe the breathing holes are the clue and weren't included on any 'reshrinks' maybe?

Would anyone in the States be willing to bid on my behalf for this? I can do a Paypal deposit up-front as a guarantee of intent to buy.

Have you tried inquiring the seller directly about selling to the UK if you pay the difference in postage and with paypal? Very often seller will say yes.
