Anybody know a thing or two about this "Monster Manuscript" by Grenadier (as in pub date)?

I just sold one last week:

IIRC, it was published in either 1983 or 1984. :)

Once again, I'm about half a ball short of a full sack.  Thanks for the link, Brian.

How does it rate for coolness?

It was alright. Nothing really special, its effectively like a small size unofficial Monster Manual put out by Greandier.   Some of the monsters were unique, but there was also quite a bit of overlap with the official material.   I wouldn't spend anymore than the guy paid for mine if I was ever in the market to pick up another one. :)

I have a couple copies of the Grenadier Manuscript booklet.  Both show a copyright and print date of 1986.  I always thought the booklet was cool because it aligns (not perfectly) to the Monster Manuscript figure line that was released in boxes by alphabet.  The Stuff of Legends site shows some of these figures:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/grenadier/dragon-lords-monster-manuscript.html

The booklet is not all that rare, from what I have seen, but the figuers in the original boxes are some of the most sought after of the Grandier lines.

Incidently, the booklet was free with the purchase of set #1501.  The monsters are shown in nearly the exact format that was used in the Monster Manual but TSR/D&D are never mentioned nor credited.

Probably more than you wanted, Stephen, but I hope that helps.

Andy

Thanks, Andy.   :D

Goes to show you can learn something every day.  I didn't know about those figures.  Looks very cool.

Time to start hunting for something new...

I asked the seller a few questions about the Lankhmar boxed game:

It is actually a second print not a first.  The first print is the one with the lizard logo on the front.

I leveraged several of the Monster Ms. creatures in my games, not least because they also had miniatures :D  Several were noteworthy, but I'll have have to go dig up my copy to let you know which ones.

That's interesting:  I would have guessed that a lid without a logo would have been an earlier printing, which is why I threw this one on watch.  I'll have to check my copies upstairs tomorrow to see if I have one without any logo at all.

With some of the boxed games, early editions had a plain white back of the box and later editions put the typical product inside photo and description on the back.  This one has a picture of the lizard logo'd box set but also has a wizard logo on the back of the box.

I forget if this one has a catalog page in it or not but it would probably have been updated as well.

There have been quite a few of these on Ebay recently. What do people think this game is worth? Has anyone played it? Is it fun?

lankhmar here with no lizard on box top and white back. should be first print from the source purchased i thought
