Order is only important for the top 10 here, the bottom 10 could be put in any order as far as I'm concerned.

I am sure someone will say "What...you didnt like Tomb of Horrors?".  I did but not as much as I liked "Return to the Tomb of Horrors".  And I didnt list it here cause technically it could be conceived as a supermodule since it contains the original.  I also never played any of the A or T modules so I really cant put them on my list even though I have read them and they would probably be a blast.

Question. How much different are the Tournament verions of the modules versus the fully published ones? I know for instance that there is some signifigant difference in the R series and I12, but I don't know much about Tsojconth, Tamo, Inverness, and Fazzlewood.  Is the difference signifigant enough to differentiate or should I just group them all to thier coresponding adventures?

I haven't run or played the Gem & the Staff, so I can't make the comparison with Fazzle.  But Tamo, Tsojco, and Inverness were all much smoother in their tourney versions.  I hated the red version of Inverness.  And the non-tourney version of Tamo seems over-complicated.  

I guess that's not really an answer to your question, though, is it?  But they're as distinct in my mind as the individual mods are from their super-mod counterparts.

Well, I won't argue with the top 5. That pretty much sums up the basis for my first 5 years playing D&D campaigns.

I would agree for Tamoachan, Inverness, and Tsojconth, and R1-4, too.  I don't own Fazzlewood, so I can't opine (though I can pine ;) ).

I am trying to look at these as great modules vs. my favorites. In many cases they are one in the same, though. I am looking at several features that make a module stand out: great story, new features/monsters, runs easy (not hard on the DM), innovation and finally, just plain coolness.


And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

You can fit them in where the White Dwarf adventures are.  I think this was for non magazine adventures.  All time adventures is for another list :)
