I say, the DMG is a true 1st (look how low down the wizard logo is on the cover).  The Monster Manual is a true 1st as well - title is halfway down, no banner stripe, and the white dot that is the trademark logo is larger compared to the one on the DMG, so I'm figuring that's a lizard logo.

Little nerds are holding a couple hundred bucks worth of books!

Well, bombadil, I've given up on trying to collect AD&D items.  It's too costly and ebay is a plastic hassle.

I've moved on to collecting AD&D collectors.

What is crazy about that picture is that it could be the same in just about any school group in the late 70s or early 80s.
