ciao guys, i opened this topic since recent auctions on ebay lead me to think that we are going into a downturn period...

i remeber last week (or 2 weeks ago) brian asking the reasons for such a low price for a white box 4th print...

this morning i woke up and found that i got a MM softcover for 12 EUR...

grodog (again this morning) had an OCE for 66 USD (nice conditions! congats!!!)

and many others auctions referred to early products went following this trend:

** expired eBay auction **

** expired eBay auction **

** expired eBay auction **

then i found that with less than 1 day to go there were items available with prices lower than usual:

** expired eBay auction **

** expired eBay auction **

** expired eBay auction **

** expired eBay auction **

...whats happening?

in my eyes, theres a general problem of supply which is taking over demand... if i were a seller, i'd seize the moment and collect new items for the future...

(whats annoying me is that i was thinking to place for the first time smtg to sell next week and i dont know whether i'll do!!!  :? )

Back to school?
Least here in the states money may be in shorter supply for all those who have been preparing and now should be back to school. Not sure that is the cause though.

Further speculation - the convention season ended last month, mainly with GenCon.  Now for the people who attended big cons, again perhaps mainly GenCon, their credit card bills are starting to come in, and they may be pulling back?
Just brainstorming...

In France this is the totally inverse pattern. Price are increased when holidays are finished and people go back to school. Actually prices are very higher than 1 month ago on ebay.fr

There's no crisis here.  You don't seem to be taking condition into account.

For example, the GW MM that I won is described as in "poor" condition.  A lot of collectors will pass that up entirely.  I recently won the same item in much better shape for about $70 USD.

Likewise, the G,DG, & H had two holes bored through it!  These things greatly affect value.

The rest of the prices seem more or less what I'd expect.

And some of the big money buyers are pulling in their horns. I notice bombadil selling off major items, so I imagine he's buying less. Frank has gone through a similar clearance with his non-TSR. Non-TSY seems to be down across the board, although lofenloc has been splashing out. I haven't bought much in a while either. I'd say the market is quite cheap ATM. A good time for buyers and newbies alike.

PS. I'm on my hols for three weeks in the US. I can still pick up PM's if anything big goes down. I wouldn't want to miss out on Paul selling off that B2 Prepub with Gary's folder of notes.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . minestrone soup.

I would definitely second that.  Really pristine stuff is still getting high prices.  And some sellers are not helping themselves.  Witness that Cthulhu 'Stark raving mad' that went recently for half what it should have done.  But the seller didn't accept paypal...

The first print "Don't Give up the Ship" seems to be heading for a fairly good price as well.

Vermillion's copy is in really nice condition but $167 seems a bit high to me.

It's a lot more than I paid for mine but Vermillion's is definitely in better condition.

Still it shows there's people willing to pay a higher dollar for some items.

It'll be good to see what it ends up going for..

Wow, that is a really high price. Tempted to sell our copy. There were several other Guidon Games items that sold the other day. Wargamer's Guide to the Battle of the Bulge went for $177 or so. It was in "new" condition though.

Glad VermilionFire made out so well :)

I think the assumption here that Lance has won the auction already although there is still 4 hours to go says a lot :)  But it is a nice addition to any collection.

Didn't later printings of Don't Give Up the Ship come with maps of ships, or am I thinking of something else?

Like a separate maps sheet in a ziplock bag or something?  I don't ever recall seeing one like that but I've been finding out about different printings left and right these days.

I recently picked up a shrinkwrapped copy of TSR Knights of Camelot to resell only to find out when I got home that it is a different printing from the one I have.

one last question (of course, personal): do you think then i can sell the items i had in mind? or would it be anyway better to wait for the end of the month?
