I've been saving up my negs on eBay for weeks, waiting for the courage to do what must be done.  This morning I let loose, and I feel as awful as I imagined I would.

I tried to work things out with each seller, but got no response.  :(

Does everyone feel like crap when they have to leave negs?  I would like to just not leave feedback, but that isn't fair to all future bidders.  These poor sellers walk around with 100% ratings because too many people are afraid of retaliatory feedback.  I wish there was a better way.  :(

I need to leave a neg for a jackass that lied his ass off on an auction description but I am waiting until the last minute to do so as I dont want to get negged in return.  I dont really want to do it but the sonofabitch deserves it.   :x   I have left a couple of neutrals but never a negative.  If it is truly deserved then I dont see a problem with it.

What is the story with the neg you left gypsybazaar1?  You left one negative and one positive and the neg was for a $24 shipping charge?  8O

Appearently Ebay recently changed their feedback policy.  The deadline is no longer 90 days after the auction, but 90 days after the auction or 90(?) days after the other person left feedback.

My main eBay account has only one negative feedback.  I left a negative for a seller and received a negative in return.  Both leaving and receiving a negative felt good and fair.

If you leave the feedback that is deserved, then you shouldn't feel guilty about leaving a negative (or neutral).  Leaving negatives for the rip-off artists works best, since in my experience they don't usually leave feedback in return.

There are much better ways, it's just that none of them are on eBay. Amazon's system for their Amazon Marketplace, for example, is 10 times better (especially the fact that buyers neither recieve nor expect feedback for actually paying for something they bought*).

I keep hearing this, but I'm not seeing it. I just checked the help pages again, and they say what they've always said: 90 days from the date of the transaction. Where did this rumor get started?

Gus Landt wrote:Does everyone feel like crap when they have to leave negs?

No — and neither should you, if the feedback is deserved. Do what needs to be done and move on. One thing I have changed in the last couple of years, though, is toning down my language a bit: I now try to follow eBay's guidelines of just "sticking to the facts."

+++++

* Yes, technically, buyers can receive feedback at Amazon. But 98 percent of users don't know this, and the 2 percent who do know don't care.

Trust me, its not in their help pages anymore, but I guarentee that if you leave a neg at 89 days and the person you left a neg for sees it in a reasonable amount of time they can retaliate.  All you need to know is the item number and Ebays system is archived up to 6 months.  i.e

Page 33 of my own feedback goes back to March:

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d ... =-1&de=off

Lets use transaction number at the very top of the list on page 33----->8776108220

Using EBay's search system on that transaction number:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %26fvi%3D1

It does in fact pull up that 5 month old transaction.  As you can note, that it also allows for me to leave feedback at the very top of the page.  The 90 days is no longer the end all be all to feedback.  :)

He shipped very quickly and well packaged.  The only problem was shipping cost him $7.50, but he charged me $24.  I tried to work it out with him, but he wouldn't lower his shipping nor refund me any of it afterward.  So I figured he should get credit for the fast, well-packaged shipping, and discredit for the unreasonable shipping charge.

Actually, BC, only you can see the feedback link — the rest of us aren't allowed to leave feedback on a deal we weren't involved with.

I'm not doubting you, though. I always knew the 90-day rule was not set in stone, but I thought it revolved around server capacity — in other words, some item pages might be stored for exactly 90 days, some for 93, some for 101, but that there were no guarantees. But six months? I had no idea ... I keep learning new things about eBay after I thought I had it all figured out.

So what does this do to BadMike's Patented 90-Day Systemâ„¢ ? Unless I'm not understanding something, it doesn't seem to be a safe method ... I could blast a guy on Day 90 and get blasted right back on Day 100.

How could he charge you $24 for shipping?  The auction says $4 in two places?  Was there something else involved?  Combined shipping on a number of items?

If he advertized $4 and charged $24........?  You feel bad?

Och, don't worry about it Gus.  A few negatives here and there aren't so bad.  There are worse things you can do.  8O

As I understand it the rule that (someone) pointed out is....

90 days from the close of the auction to leave feedback....

and...

90 days from the last feedback.

If he deserves a neg then let it be.  Far to aften we all fall in the trap of not leaving a neg when the other guy deserves it because we are afraid of retaliation.

It toilets my patented method...but still, I find waiting about three months is good because the buyer/offender/seller has often forgotten the transaction entirely and sometimes the neg has a good chance of just slipping in undetected.
If you have to leave a neg, leave it.  No one expects accounts to be 100% anymore, Ebay has been around long enough now that any long-lasting account has at least a neg or two.
I've never felt bad about a neg I left...never one.  They are almost all left for non paying bidders that never contacted me despite multiple emails and contacts from Ebay.

I've never felt bad about leaving negatives, and I do it if I think it's warranted. It bugs the hell out of me that I get negatives in return though. I've got 6 on my account (only 1 in the last year), and all but 1 of them were from stuff that was completely the other person's fault. (One of those I deserved ;P)

Well I just left my first neg ever and it felt pretty damn good.  The rat bastard definitely deserved it.  Lied about the condition and the completeness of the items.  Entire lot smelled like cigarette smoke.  Wanted a 20% restocking fee if returned.  Guy oughta be castrated.

Hey, if I knew you were going to complain and leave a neg, I would have never tried to charge you the 20% restocking fee....

Ummmm, I don't think it can be patented by Mikey. I suggested this method long ago in the forum. Used to use it all the time.
I'd be happy to split credit, though. How about "BadLord's Patented 90-Day System"?

If you try to leave feedback for someone, there is a bulleted item which states feedback can be left for AT LEAST 90 days.
