Has anyone ever had modules such as B2, X1 etc. with the cardboard header on top stapled THRU the module?

Yes, B2 was sold that way.  L1 was not, at least not that I am aware of.  X1, I don't know.  Maybe someone else knows of others that were sold this way.  Doesn't seem to affect the value though.  These are pretty hard to find intact so they usually are worth somewhat more than their counterparts without the header.  The Acaeum has pictures and pricing of B2 & L2.

There are three up for auction on eBay right now in a lot of modules for sale.

If anyone here doesn't want me putting links up to eBay auctions, just p.m. and I won't do it again.

I'm confused by that auction. There's one picture with the 3 modules with headers but in the main picture it looks like they don't have them...

That's a good point.  Maybe the seller folded them over or took them off - god forbid!  I can't recall seeing these particular ones with the headers.  Something to add to the Acaeum if they were packaged that way.  If I recall the ones with the headers were typically sold to toy stores like Kaybee and Toys-R-Us.
