What is the most money you have ever spent on a single gaming item? Why? Do you regret it? Do you still own it? Be Honest

"NM condition" and "utmost pristine condition" my foot. :)
(eBay should automatically censor out any such descriptions...)

And discounting the $1,624 PotVQ, of course, although I'm sure that will be listed here until the end of time.

The first copy came with TSR's editing on it, although the second copy had the Steve's playtest report with it. I wouldn't mind seeing that, but I doubt I ever will.

  • What is the most money you have ever spent on a single gaming item?  $760 for RJK's six Castle Greyhawk levels
  • Why?  Because they were a steal for the price, and they're the original CG levels (what more needs be said?).
  • Do you regret it?  Nope, though my wife still shakes her head, now and again :D
  • Do you still own it?  Yes.

What is the most money you have ever spent on a single gaming item? $100 for a NM condition 6th print OD&D box set.
Why?  Very good deal.
Do you regret it?  No.
Do you still own it?  Yes.

I have spent more money than $100 on multiple items from one person though.  I just dropped $200 this weekend on some NM MERP items including Umbar.  I think the most I dropped at one time was $300 when I picked up Aneoth's R1 and R2 along with a stack of more common items when he sold all of his stuff.

I cant imagine paying much more that I already have for any one item except perhaps a woodgrain.

You know, I wracked my brains and couldn't come up with a single high dollar purchase (over $100) ofa single item, unless Roslof's artwork counts (that was around $400 IIRC).  However, I have spent more buying large collections or lots.  I've had a 5 grand purchase, a 3 grand purchase, several $1000 purchases, and just recently two $800 purchases.  I don't regret a single one now, although at the time right afterwards I did regret the $5000 purchase (however it has eventually paid for itself double, and a few items made it into my personal collection).  I would absolutely never spend over a couple hundred on a  single item unless it was something I could resell and was an absolute steal (I.e., a orange B3, ST1, POTVQ, etc).  I've been ruined by years of finding treasures at used bookstores and just know the week after I paid top dollar for something I would find a nicer one at a local Half Price Books or somewhere similar.

Most Spent: I think it was around $150
For what: White Box (collector's ed) with all the other mini-books from that era
Do I regret it: Yes! Because not a Zues damn person I have ever played AD&D with has cared that I have them. Most don't even know what they are. No! Because I love to take them out about once a year and look at them.
