Mike - just to clarify, that's the artwork from the D&D Companion Set, though the image is reversed left-to-right (at least from the Acaeum scan), and the border is red instead of turquoise.

Also, here's some 2002 threads on the Talaran PBM game:

The image is reversed, Elmore's name is backwards in the lower right corner!
Thanks for the links, unfortunately not much there.  When I get time this week I'll scan a few pages, put them on photobucket and link them from here so everyone can get a look at this sucker.

That Needle artwork pops up everywhere...IIRC it's also the cover for the sixth print (2nd edition) of Rogue's Gallery.

The 25th Anniversary D&D Intro box set even uses all the characters from I11 - essentially recycling the names and portraits and making them low-level characters.

I'm hoping to bump this thread to get a little help. I just discovered one of these in a storage unit and, good gracious, there is nothing much at all on this product online. Has more research been done after the time of this thread? If so, would you be so kind as to point me to it.

Not sure if you have seen this info yet from the Tome of Treasures:

Tome of Treasures - D&D

They are about as rare as you can get, but they have not been as sought after as other rare items.

If you are looking to sell, list it with a low starting price and post it under the "Classifieds" forum.  It will find its best sale price.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I might just add it to my collection. I had thought I knew of just about everything from that era, so I'm thrilled to have found something that has truly befuddled me.

Tangential question -

For a long, long time, at GenCon there was a turn-based fantasy game (I think done by mail or email during non-Convention times?).  They were always positioned by the doorway, after you entered the hall.
Their program book write ups were kind of vague/misleading, I think, as I remember being very surprised when I found out what the game/event really was.

Not the greatest description, I know, but does anyone know what I'm talking about and the name of it?
I don't think it was TSR sponsored or Silverdawn, but the name escapes me.

I don't think so.

Midgard Seminar - PBM  - Blacklight
Doesn't seem like what I'm thinking of.

Do you know what years?  That would help.  Using that event database, you might be able to determine what it was.  I did a quick search by year, using "PBM" and I noticed there were a lot of entries in the 2000's for Orcs vs. Dwarves: A Forgotten Realms PBM scenarios.

That's the one I was thinking of.   :thumleft:

Sometimes the entries say PBM, sometimes they don't.  It's listed under BG.  But it sometimes references Forgotten Realms.

I was lucky to get a couple D&D PBMs. One is complete, I think. Those are the rarest "mass-produced" items in my now 3,000+ RPG item collection I believe. I would suggest Acaeum adds it to the rare list. How often does it get updated?

All has a price... But this one doesn't come cheap. Rarer than woodgrain boxes it seems!

It's on the list to be added (since about 2003).
