STS, I think that maybe you are underestimating the amount of people out there who have hostile feelings towards you.  Just because people have not been vocal in their feelings towards you, does not mean that they don't feel a certain way, they just choose to keep their thoughts to themselves or leave them in private with others. This may or may not affect your feelings on the matter, but perhaps you need to understand the fact that there are those that feel just as strongly and in some circumstances even more strongly, in spite of the fact that they have yet to post those feelings in public.

STS, goodbye end of discussion.  Back to the story ....
-----------------

While Frank's statements can be a bit strong his sentiment is spot on.  You certainly don't listen while you are more than happy to shovel your ideas down everyone elses throat.  Not the type of behaviour I would look for in a person who I wanted to have a conversation with.

So as Frank originally, and rightly so,  suggested who are the current grandmasters.  I have started the list ....

Collection:
FoulFoot/Scott (Unless he has sold his collection? - last time we have spoken he hadn't)
Faro/Harami/David
ExTSR/Frank M
Robilar/Rob Kuntz
Invincible Overlord/Mike
chromaticknight/Mike
stratochamp/Bill/Bil171771717 (hell I can't remember the sequence of numbers  )
Shane (nominated for a very nice JG collection)
Brette (An Aussie on the list very cool)
Lawrenson/ Malcom

Knowledge:
FoulFoot/Scott
Faro/Harami
ExTSR/Frank M
Robilar/Rob Kuntz
Deadlord/Frank F (not sure about your collection anymore?)
Invincible Overlord/ Mike
deimos3428/
chromaticknight/Mike
grodog/Allan
Brette (knowledge of the fanzines)
Mark Shultz' (knowledge of non-tsr)
Mars' / Mark's (experience with his own collection)

Influence:
ExTSR/Frank M - I have to put Frank in all  three categories - He is the grandmaster's grandmaster  :D
Robilar/Rob Kuntz - The man who has help keep the flame alive

I could see adding at least two names to the "knowledge" category: Deimos, the all-time print-run junkie  :) ... and (suck-up alert!) FoulFoot himself. Foul doesn't post much, but that's not from a lack of D&D lore.

I always figured that Lord Foulfoot WAS the grandaddy of collectors due to this site  :?:  8)

Deimos is defintely a print run junkie, but the all time greatest print run junkie has to be chromaticknight.   I would certainly put him up there for both collection size and knowledge.  Mike may in fact be the largest material contributor to the site outside of Foul himself.

Done ... I even put him at the top of each category (I know how to suck up too   )

And before anyone asks I am not adding cougarretard.  Given his propensity to lie I don't trust what he has nor his knowledge and his influence is a joke.

I still have a decent chunk of the JG printings. At one point or another I've owned a fair share of the non-TSR stuff. Much more interesting, in my opinion. I am much more of a "have owned it" collector than "own it and will never part with it" one. I treat RPG items like women. Once I've had them, I always have the memory. No need to have the original. Might as well pass it on so someone else can enjoy it.

i am somewhat like Frank in that perspective. the fact that i have had an item for a while is cool. when i dont like it no more, i pass it to someone who would appreciate it a lot more than me.

that doesnt go for everything of course. there are some items in my small collection that i wouldnt let go for anything. they are prb slight in value too, but the history of the item, you cannot replace, so to you, it becomes priceless. five specific items come to mind. i have a little halfling miniature that my daughter painted. its ace! i had my other daughter get me a dragon miniature and she tried to paint that (not that great mind) and finally, i have three comics (!), one is a loony tunes, one chip n dale and the other something like the evil scientist (cant remember the name offhand). they are all from 1961-1965....again dates are at home. they are just a few items, prb very nominal in value, but priceless to me.

hope that makes sense?

lawrenson has a nice sizey collection on the go - shouldnt ignore him, as well as david (harami), who prb owns half the white boxes in the world and mr improv himself, as well as brette too....they have defo got to be on the list somewhere!

oh and shane prb has the coolest JG collection i would imagine too....not quite as fabulous as IO's (which would be stupendously hard), but definately up there!

oh and STS....give it a rest will you? this is a collecting site, so join in and talk about that. you sound off and everyone will retaliate. simple as.

so what does the list look like now? print it up, lets have a looksee!

oh and what about that chappy...thefantasymuseum or whatever his name is?

i know there was some hoo-har a while back, but if its meant to be a kinda proper list, he would prb be worth a mention? but then y'all know that far better than i do :)

I hope you are not into passing the women off as well  8O

Ok will add Lawrenson and Brette. David's already on the list.  As for myself I have never really considered myself a grandmaster.  Rather someone who is just reliving a little of his early years.  :D

I will add Shane ... The current list is above ... I keep adding to my previous post with the list ...

I assume this is TSR D&D we're talking about?

On the subject of knowledge, when you step away from TSR into third party publishers, you need to consider Brette's knowledge of the fanzines, Mark Shultz' knowledge of non-tsr, and Mars' (Mark's) experience with his own collection.

Let us not forget that TSR only accounts for a half of the collectable D&D product pre-1990's.

And let us not forget our own inhouse JG duo. Their knowledge base may well be unmatched by other collectors today.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

oh yeah and JG knowledge too. bar for david and mike, shane is way out there on his own. after all, with help from others mind, he has created a fantastic JG subweb and in doing so has filled in so many gaps from years gone by.
