I'm kinda surprised you have S1 up there.

I doubt anyone playing D&D for the first time would keep playing after

attempting the Tomb. Unless of course they like dying.

I'm of the firm opinion that any party without prior knowledge or a kindly DM will be trashed by the Demi-Lich assuming they get that far.

I am surprised Village of Hommlet and White Plume Mountain are not up there. My first store bought module was T1 (which I still have...beaten half to death, or maybe three quarters to death). However, my first adventure was a home grown one.

The Palace of Silver Princess (better, Il palazzo della principessa d'argento   ) was the very first module I DMed while The Lost City was (perhaps) the first I played in. I suppose virtually every Italian D&D player has played B2, B3 and B4 because for at least four years they were the only B modules translated into Italian.  They are fondly remembered... and this is the main reason because I WANT    to have a copy of Orange B3 (at a reasonable price of course   )

Heh, I wanted to put up more options but it kept saying "too many options" when I submitted it

- so I had to keep removing them till I got down to a list of 10.

As with Rhea, there weren't any modules when I started.  We were on a table top in the back of The Little Soldier Shop in Wheaton MD.  (Creators of The Ringbearer and other obscure pamphlets).  The first module I played was Tomb of Horrors.  However, that was when it was the tournament dungeon at Origins I.

It was pretty sad actually.  I had a multi-class character, and I had used my clerical heals on another party member.  Then I got hurt and the group leader said I was too low-powered to waste a spell on.  I then got attacked by a giant tick.  Sucked me dry in one attack.  Eww!  And I was out of the tournament.  My group did not do too well either.  Bad leadership, I think.

Origins II was better.  The tournament was a combination of The Barrier Peaks and a prototype of Metamorphosis Alpha.  Tim Kask (Dragon editor) was our ref.  My group won the tournament and I won a subscription to The Dragon.  Dragon No. 1 was on sale at the con, so I figured I might as well pick up a copy.  Still have it, plus 2-7, which I got through the subscription.

I did the classic.

Bought a bow but no arrows...

Then we let the strongest member of the party carry the money.

Never saw him again.

Okay, so I'm browsing the old forum posts. . . time to bring a few back from the dead.

My first module was Keep on the Borderlands. . .

Wow!  This has caused me to really think back and realize that I was only 8 years old and in 4th grade.  My friend, Greg, was the same age - and TSR didn't make it any easier as the Basic Set he had contained the chits instead of dice.

I remember distinctly that we played under the impression that after all your characters died, they came back as level 2.  Then when they died again, they came back as Level 3.

I did a lot of dying that night. . .

I was 11. We bought the basic set, and a bunch of us ran thru B1 with me as DM. The characters would walk into a room, and I would read what was in there. In its entirety. Such as "You see a 20x20 room, full of old, rotting furniture. There is a battered wooden chest in the south corner. In the bottom of the chest is a false compartment, containing 20 g.p."
I eventually figured it out.
The first one I PLAYED was B2. I remember my stats (with 3 6-sided dice):

18/00 (yes, I rolled it!)
13
14
17
17
13

Super warrior. I was chained up in the zombie area in the temple. The party got annihilated by the zombies, so I asked if I could try and break my chains. I did. The DM gave me a choice: either grab the unconscious fighter who was the only one left alive, or grab the +2 silver bastard sword. I think I did the smart thing. Grabbed the fighter, took him to the clerics, then we went back, kicked corpse ass, and I got the sword anyways.

At first, I just created characters and took them through a couple adventures myself, just to get a feel for the procedures, where the tables were, etc.

When I found a group to join a couple months later, they were currently partway through X2 Castle Amber.  I was honest and told them I owned it and had already read through it, but they said 'no problem, just don't look at it anymore - how much can you remember?'.  They got their answer when I spent the module saying things like 'ok - let's have the thief try to disarm the poison trap on the safe (before we even examined it), then take the 5,000 gold inside.'   :)

This group and I played somewhere around 50 modules together and, although there was a little personnel change, is the only group I've ever gamed (D&D) with (outside of conventions).

Yes, S1 was indeed my first dungeon  :?
Probably not the wisest choice by the DM....
And yes, my character died, but I still got hooked on the game......

X1 was the first pre-written thing I'd ever DM'd (with 2 other people playing 6 characters!).  The first one I actually got to PLAY was the first 3rd edition module, The Sunless Citadel (yes, I got suckered into being DM for a LONG time).

Tomb of Horrors.  Not only the first module I ever played, but the first time I ever played D&D.

Had played Tunnels and Trolls with some friends (freshman year of high school).

The first module I purchased was T1 at Wintercon 79 (still have it). I also picked my mono C1 on the final day of the convention just because I had $5 left in my wallet. Who knew.... 8O

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

My brother ran me and his best friend through T1.  That was the first time I played.  I played Torf the Paladin and played him for about 6 years before the campaign finally died.
