Looking in the lower-left corner of the splash page, I see that the Acaeum forums are now home to 50,000-plus posts. At first I thought it was just Al's post-count, but then I figured it out ...

Anyway, I love useless trivia of this sort, so here's some facts and figures to celebrate our half-a-hundred-thousand milestone (I'm using the exact figure of 50,000 for all the math):

1. Assuming Scott's post of Oct. 23, 2002 was the very first forums post, we've been in business for 1,279 days ... so that's 39.09 posts per day.

2. Our top poster has accounted for 6.38% of all posts.

3. Our top four posters have combined for 11,579 posts, or 23.1% of the total.

4. Giving David credit for both of his accounts changes the above figures to 12,328 and 24.6%.

5. Of our 750 members, 181 have not made a single post. I'm not sure I see the point of even bothering to register, but, for the record, that's 24.1%.

6. A further 132 visitors have posted exactly once (these are probably the folks that Brian or Frank or someone scared off). So, looking at point 5 above, that means that 41.7% of our members have posted fewer than two times.

7. A total of 63 folks are listed as never having even visited the forums. I'm assuming this means that one's initial registration does not actually count as a visit.

8. Our "average" member has posted 66.66 times (a figure massively skewed by our frequent posters). Our median poster is "tdewey10," who has made 3 posts. I'm going to assume that 0 is our mode, since it occurs 181 times.

9. Using the 66.66 figure for our "average" visitor, only 105 of 750 members (or 14%) have actually posted that many items.

10. Of our top 50 posters:

* 9 registered in 2002;
* 14 registered in 2003;
* 16 registered in 2004;
* and 11 registered in 2005

11. Of our top 50 posters who list a hometown (that I can interpret):

* 4 are from the UK
* 3 are from Italy
* 3 are from Canada
* 3 are from Australia
* and 18 U.S. states are represented

12. I have too much free time.

Average 66.66!  Is that not an evil number.

I guess my parents were right!  D&D is EVIL :evil:

....yes, but it didn't become evil until it hit that 66.66 mark and it will only stay evil until there are more posts.

Okay, we can't give the BADD folks any ammunition, so I'm now offering an up-to-the-minute figure to replace the 66.66 mentioned above:

As of 11:48 p.m. Pacific time, we have 50,103 posts made by 751 users, which gives us ...

... 66.71 posts per user.

To add two additional trivia points (and no, I don't have any free time at all; the board generated these statistics for me):

Average new topics per day:  2.07
Average new users per day:  0.58

Also, there *are* a few good reasons to register, even if you never plan on posting: you can see the Who's Online block and other statistics, you can view the memberlist, and you also get the new-messages-in-orange tracking feature.

P.S.  Thanks very much to this whole community, and a big congratulations on reaching the 50,000-message milestone.  Here's to the next 50,000, and hopefully we do it in half the time!

*fires up the LOL counter ready*  :P

well i think this is a great board with great ppl here. i love the way topics veer off-topic so fast, then somehow in a bizarre fashion end up back on-topic again.

good fun!

Now that the statistics are coming forth, who is going to start doing the Earned Value Management on the site?

MUST VANQUISH EVIL

...

MUST MAKE MORE POSTS TO GET AVERAGE AWAY FROM THAT DIABOLICAL NUMBER

...

Am I taking this role-playing too seriously?

Some suggestions:

1. Lots of Draco "LOL's" after a funny post
2.  Hang around the "New Members" thread greeting people "Welcome to the forum, dude!"
3.  Start your own opinion thread and post there often
4.  Start lots of polls "What is the greatest B-series module of all time?"  and offer your ideas often
5.  Find new items and post in the "Interesting items" thead at least once a day.
6.  Resolve to post at least three times a day for a year, you'll have 1000 by the end of the year.

Not that I've done any of these, of course..... 8O
