1 x 4th print
1 x 6th print
Shrink  :D 1 x 6th/7th print but can't really tell which :(

I have noticed on the OCE copies that the item number 2002 appears in the bottom right hand corner of the front of the box lid, and the shink copy's number is a lot closer to the actual corner and side (practically right on right edge and half the distance to the bottom).
Then again it may mean nothing...

Same with me. Even though we were playing AD&D, I still bought the set. Never used it though and it is still in near mint shape. I remember seeing it sitting on our local hobby shop's shelf for at least six months collecting dust.

I bought mine in the same situation, I was collecting comics at the time and thought someday in the future maybe D&D would be collectable.  I gues I was right!!

Darn, now I need a "6th".  According to that list, I have a 5th and a 7th (plus that pesky 5A with the different cover).

I own a copy of the 5th printing, which I picked up way back in 1997-98 from Titan Games for much less than folks are spending now on the OCE.

How would I know the printing?

I read the info here in the Rulebook section and it gives a good idea of how to tell.

My present copy came from one of my old gaming buddies...a gift at the Super Bowl party, along with the Arduin boxed set.

The box is definately 6th printing.

The books are 4th printing.

The Blackmoor, Greyhawk, Eldritch Wizardry, Swords and Spells and Gods, Demigods and Heroes that were also in the box range from 4th printing on up.

And 6ths race back into the lead again...

OK, so it does appear as though several of us were secretly hoarding those 4ths ("two copies only known" *g*) in preference to 5ths; and only too keen to admit asap, now... then those of us with OCEs delurked, afterwards?
*
I suspect that more OCEs were bought "first hand" than 4ths?
As to the late OCEs, that's a perplexing gap (unless "bought first hand" explains why people picked-up 6ths rather than 7ths?).
From what I've seen, the 7ths are not noticeably rarer than the various 6ths; 'though not every copy is recognisable from its cover.

Just my 02c/thinking out loud, anyhow :)

I believe this may have something to do with the new descriptions.  The 4th/4th- distinction has mysteriously vanished...

*g*. So what did all those people with books that had "Fourth Print" inside the front cover think that they had, then? ;)

And presuming everyone's read things correctly, this time around... :) *jk*

Hmm... I misread your note re. printings: thought you were missing a 7th (there's an excellent one up at $30/5 days just now).

I can't imagine.  But I'm quite happy I didn't shell out $300+ for the burnie brother's copy, now that they've quadrupled in number overnight.

I have a couple of copies slightly better than Burnie Bros's, fwiw, even if I can't beat Stephen's.

*g*. Hey, but please remember they're still scarce compared with relatively "common" stuff such as Tamos or Invernesses. :P

i can imagine a room in davids house that looks like a library. wall to wall books with one of the ladders that slides around the walls. you walk in and there they are....a whole wall of OCEs. "so what do you want? a 4th? just over there"  :P

Al

Are we nearly there yet?

... though David's got so many his grading system goes to the next decimal point - "now Al that 4th's an 8.56 as opposed to the 8.52 next to it"  :D  :P

*bump* ;)

(heh... someone's finally ticked "7th")

Interesting that 6ths were still being picked up first-hand in 1981, btw. Thanks for that snippet. :)
