Isn't it remarkable that Bidder 4 and Bidder 9, both brand new I might add, bid the exact same amount ($150) just 12 minutes apart?

And then, in a real coup de grace, 14 hours later, they bid the exact same amount ($155) AGAIN, 45 seconds apart? First Bidder 9, then 4.

And for their curtain call, they bid the same amount together ($160) yet a third time moments later, first Bidder 4, then 9...almost as if someone had to bid, log out, log in on a second account, and then bid again.

Fortunately, thanks to Ebay's new "privacy" rules we can't actually see the userids of these shillers, I mean bidders. Thanks Ebay! I'm glad you're there to protect us.

Hopefully you're correct, as "Bidder 9" ended up winning, which would be one of the hypothetical shill accounts.  Keep a lookout for this exact set again, and then we'll bust him. ;)

Usually I can't ever tell when an item has been shilled but this one is about as obvious as they come.  Even with ebay's new enhanced shilling policy (aka privacy policy) this one is easy to tell.

Thank you for taking the time to write to eBay's Safe Harbor department.
Shill bidding is a serious offense and we will investigate your report
as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours.

We will investigate the accounts for possible shill bidding by looking
at the information you have provided as well as our internal records. We
will also compare this to bidding patterns and any other activity that
may have occurred involving the reported accounts.

If we are able to find evidence of shill bidding, our actions can range
from issuing an educational alert, a temporary suspension, or in some
cases an indefinite suspension. The type of action that we take depends
on the specific situation surrounding an individual account. Things such
as the existence of a previous warning, the nature of the offense and
the length of time as a community member will all be taken into
consideration. Repeated violations of policies will often result in the
suspension of a member's account.

Sometimes, what appears to be shill bidding may actually be a legitimate
bidding activity. This can occur for a number of reasons, for example, a
bidder may bid almost exclusively on one or two sellers whom they have
come to trust. If we find there is not enough evidence of shill bidding,
we may not take action against any of the reported accounts.

We assure you that we will thoroughly examine your report. Please keep
in mind that due to our privacy policy you will not receive specific
details of our actions. In certain circumstances, we may contact you by
email if we need further information. We pledge, though, that an eBay
Safe Harbor representative will quickly review your report of shill
bidding and apply our guidelines fairly.

**Please do not respond to this email as your reply will not be
received.

We know your time is valuable and we appreciate you taking a moment to
express your concern to us. Thank you for helping to keep eBay a safe
and reputable forum in which to conduct business.

Regards,

The eBay Safe Harbor Team

D&D board game on BIN of £51...

** expired eBay auction **

Here's a copy of the message I sent to the seller...

"Hi there, I was wondering how you came to the value this item on a BIN price of over £50 when you can still buy this game from places like the discount bookstore "The Works" in the UK for £10?"

To be fair, he does appear to also be offering one of the two expansion sets (which can be difficult to find).

That's a fairly fun game, BTW; I have no idea why it was offered strictly to the UK/Europe markets. I had to pay some hefty dollars to get my copy shipped to the colonies.

youre right but then you'd consider additional 40 bucks for the nice graphic tool license in order to get the cool image for the auction... then 50 bucks are a reasonable price! :D :D :D

His response

"they call it ebay"

I'm so tempted to throw in a bid to push it close to the reserve limit. He knows he's taking advantage of people & trying to rip them off.  :x

Ha!  I used to live on the Redneck Riviera (Florida panhandle Gulf Coast).   I wonder where the Canadian Riviera is?
