This so frustrating.  I've been looking for a nice 1st print of MA for a while now ... when I saw the price ...  8O ... my God, I felt like Chuck Jones had drawn my eyes.

I posted a question not too long ago concerning MA's valuation, and I believe the response was that a copy generally sells for $75-80.

Am I missing something in this auction that would justify the price tag?

Thanks for posting that ... ridiculous eBay photos are kind of a hobby of mine; I can't get enough of them. :)

I just can't help wondering what goes through people's heads when the decide to add awful photos to their listings. I mean, for one thing, we live in a digital age: if your first effort sucks, just take another shot!

I'll tell you what goes through my head, though: "This person can't be bothered to take a halfway decent photo; I wonder what else they can't be bothered with?"

I know this set is popular, but it's not exactly "super rare".

Well, ebay france, probably not highly interesting for you, but look at the last 20 minutes of the bid history...

It was a great "mano a mano" -if you use this italian expression, but I am sure you will unterstand   :wink:

I know that Avalon Hill's Dune is a popular game, but this is really getting up there in terms of price:

Wow, that's one of the higher Dune results I've ever seen, especially for the "Sting" version.* Also, according to the description, the game is not 100-percent unpunched.

Man, it's results like this one and the recent rash of hela-high prices for the Dwarfstar games (these have been mentioned in some other threads) that have me wanting to do another round of eBay sell-offs. Hell, my copy of Dune is much nicer than that one! :)

+++++

*In talking with Peter Olotka, one of the designers of the game, it's become very clear to me that practically no one involved thought the "Sting" cover was a good idea. Well, no one except the muckety-mucks at Avalon Hill ...

That is that guy who posted here a few months ago asking people what they though he should put as prices on the stuff in his store.  Everyone who posted a response was pretty much of the concesus that on a shrinkwrapped Mentzer Basic set that he he should put a price of ~£10 at the most.  His response was essentially, "Thanks for all the help guys. Based on all of your responses, I think that I will put it in my store for £35."  :?  I guess he finally figured out that no one wanted to buy it for £35 so he graciously lowered the price to £30.  What a moron. :roll:

Actually, I was partially wrong, here is the thread right here:

viewtopic.php?t=4828

It seems that he finally decided on £20 after everyone respnses.  Since it didn't sell at all much, he decided to actually raise the price. :?  Interesting strategy there....
