If the seller can retract a shill bid, then bid over again to just below that maximum, they can force any buyer to pay their maximum bid.

That's always been the case.

Retracting bids is simple.  I haven't retracted a bid in a while, and I'm too lazy to try and find the appropriate pages on eBay.

From member, bids can't be retracted in the last 24 hours of an auction.  Only a certain number of bid retractions are allowed every [90?] days; if one retracts too many bids, then the account is suspended for a month.

Multiple accounts are a good way to get around being temporarily suspended.

On the other hand, one can always just send off a second-chance offer to the non-shill bidder afterwards.

Gygax-mania is sweeping eBay in full force.  Considering you can still get one direct from the original publisher (link below) for $34.95, paying more and having to deal with other bidders seems a bit silly.  Plus, the same seller had about 8 copies on BIN last week, for something like $12.95, and nobody cared.

49.99 for a moldy Eldritch? That is a bit of a stretch for a starting bid.

Over a dollar?! Clearly this is one seller who's willing to splurge on packaging!

Two bidders only, both with low feedback, and plenty of other B2s out there ... looks shill-a-licious to me.

AD&D B2 Keep on the Borderlands module., first edition circa 1980.  Hard to find.

If Keep is "hard to find", I'd hate to think of what that makes something like ST1.

Yeah, I put in a low bid on that one and have had to pick my jaw up from the floor just about every time I log into eBay and see what new heights it's hit.

Yikes. 8O
