From what I can tell, degassy wouldn't be too affected by a shill. He's in it to buy the items and seems to have plenty of expendable funds to enjoy his new hobby. I would wager that the difference between 100 and 500 for him is about the same as the difference between 5 and 10 bucks for us.

If you wanted something for 5, you'd probably just as happily buy it for 10 without a fear that you might be shilled by some "unscrupulous" street urchin. You'd be happy to have it.

I've seen this in foreign countries where Americans are paying for something they think is a deal, but which is enough money to support a family for two months.

Degassy is nuts..I think he's gone up against some Acaeum members in auctions and far overpaid for items that aren't that hard to find.

While Degassy may be a wealthy collector I think his tactic is to be the earliest bidder so when other potential bidders see his name they go, "oh, Degassy has bid, I can't win so there is no point in me placing a bid".  Does the guy ever buy a fixed price item from a store?  I would think a legitimate, serious collector with seemingly unlimited resources would go through the stores first and then fill in the holes in his collection via the auction.

Personally if I see Degassy as the high bidder I'm not scared off.  I place my bid anyway, higher than normal, and make him pay for his win.  I run auctions too and would hate to think people are afraid to bid because they see the Degassy name.

How high will this guy go?  I have a feeling I could have placed a $60 bid and still lost.  At least he didn't win it for $20.

Mertwig's Maze for $192.50:

Perhaps not surprisingly, the runner-up bidder is one whose name has appeared elsewhere in this thread recently.

We really should have an Acaeum Monthly magazine and an column in which we interview people like the top two bidders here - just so we can understand.

In fairness to the seller, he's not attempting to hide the fact that the item's cover is torn up.  The text and the picture make clear that this item has a severe problem.

The word MINT doesn't belong the auction description, unless he's including a breath MINT with the module.  I bet some of you are drooling and wanting to bid on this post because it contains the word MINT, so I'll SHRINK away and WRAP it up.
