Fredy is a good painter but wow.  Record price for a single mini! 8O

Wow...there were 34 bidders on that auction....which is odd, because $34 would have been about my bid.

Lets not get insulting here, freddy is one of the worlds best.  Miniature painting is an emerging art form.  I would have guessed this one to go in the $700.00 range.  The previous high price was $980.00 IIRC for a Matt Verzani painted miniature.

I had no idea such a market existed.

The seller lowered the starting bid to $5... maybe he lurks here...

Anyway I'm still a horse's patoot if it sells for even $5... I mean, come on, it's an empty box, and not woodgrain, for crying out loud...

You gotta be shitting me.

Someone has way too much money or too little common sense. Has anyone ever seen another mini sell for anything close to that?

Geez, I just figured out it's an empty box.  I was trying to figure out what all the fuss was about.

Oh...well...lowering the cost nullifies all bets.  I doubt now that you will turn out to be a horse's patoot.  :D

The box might be valuable to someone, though.

I have checked out her site several times and I have always been very impressed.  The one she did of Radagast the Brown has been my personal favorite until I saw the Goldberry.  That is some stunning detail!!!

I've no doubt that there are some good miniatures being painted out there.  Most of them do not seem to be better than I could do myself.

Not saying that the elf horseman isn't great, or that other professional painters aren't really good....just that some of the "great" paintjobs out there are not as good as I could do.

One example would be the crappy miniatures used for the Lord of the Rings movies.  What a place to save money!  They had great costumes and sets, and they had pretty good acting and directing...but apparently they bought their miniatures people at Goodwill...or whatever equivalent is available in New Zealand.

All through the films...particularly at Isengard and at Osgiliath...I wanted to say to the miniatures painters: "Hey, let me have a brush.  This is called 'dry brushing' and it works in colors other than gray!  You should probably learn some basic techniques...and how to use colors other than gray.  For instance...here is how to use brown and blue to enhance all that gray you have there...lets also try some green..."

But, of course, my point is that I am not that overwhelmingly good.

I can't imagine that there is a market for my old Warhammer 40K miniatures.  And, as if I could bring myself to sell off the famous old regiments in my lead and pewter forces!

5th Tyrhennian Highlanders
75th Bucephalus (Mechanized)
The Law Givers
The Silver Suns
The Abishai Death Masque
Overdog's Rough Boyz (Mechanized)
The Phoenix Legion

Just the battle flags make me weep with bittersweet memories!

Is it possible that the seller just doesn't know what great condition means?  I mean, if they were trying to be tricky, wouldn't they have used more tricky pictures to conceal the real condition?

I wonder if that is one of those special edition gold plated ones.

Well, to be fair, the seller is also offering quite a few hardbacked books and a few other items — although the listing is so poorly written that that information is difficult to pick out.

That's not to say that the listing doesn't deserve a place on this thread, though — it most assuredly does. His odds on getting a legitimate bid are long-ish, to say the least.
