Indeed. That would be only the second copy I've ever seen.

faro wrote:The Acaeum scan appeared at roughly the same time as Paul was in touch with RJK to pull together items for auction and/or referred back to the previous failed sale, so I presumed it tied in with that.

Loose sheet, then, rather than yet another(!) Domesday #13: in which case, titled on an original page and then repro'd, perhaps?

Nope, not related to the RJK auctions at all; I've had the papers for about eight to nine years now.

In response to a private message sent to me, I'll post the full story here, to belay the inevitable questions:

The papers mostly consist of things that were sent by Gary Gyagx to Andre Norton, when Norton was preparing her novel "Quag Keep". The papers were designed to try and convey the spirit and substance of D&D. It consists of a typewritten letter from Gary, two (sample) character sheets (one from Rob, the other from Dave Megarry), a dungeon map of Rob's, some TSR fliers, and the aforementioned Blackmoor map.

I sold the letter and the Blackmoor map about eight years ago, though I have scans of both. At the time of the sale, we were trying to figure out what the materials were about, and especially if the dungeon map was from Castle Greyhawk. Gygax said he remembered sending the materials to Norton, but doesn't remember what happened to them.  The buyer ran into Rob at a convention (I believe), and showed him a scan of the map, and Rob said he believed that it was part of a stash of items that were stolen from him sometime back. I don't remember if he indicated that the Norton materials were also his, though how he would have come into possession of them, I don't know.

It's my cautious opinion that Rob is mistaken. The dungeon map -- which is not from Castle Greyhawk, but looks based on the Blackmoor / City of the Gods line -- is probably just a sample that Rob whipped up in order to be included in the Norton materials. The guy I bought them from (off eBay) was an older book collector, who didn't have much of an idea of what they were.

That's the long story. If there was anything of remote interest to the hobby in there, I would have shared it long ago.

Cheers,

Foul

Remember when they came out. I took one look and thought, "Oh my God, TSR just carved it stone that all of us are complete geeks!"

Again, we wonder why they went belly up.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

They're almost as useless and silly as the screens.

One day I'll fetch them.  :P

So totally useless and devoid of almost anything actually usable that TSR actually lists "Pencil" on the component list.

(stumbled on a little bit of alliteration there . . .  :)  )

I almost always attempt to avoid alliteration.

You know, that "worst item thread" was fun ... and I'm sure it mentioned both the player packs and the *shudder* God-awful cards.

Maybe we should re-visit? Who's up for some good-spirited bashing? :)

Yes, that's probably the most popular thread idea I've had . . . go figure.  :P

Damn it Beyond, you are a genious!  Anyone remeber that  AD&D pencil I auctioned off a few months ago? We couldn't figure where the hell it came from. Even our resident former TSR staffer was at a loss.

It came from those stupid oversized lunchbox sets. Ah yes, mystery solved thanks to Scooby Doo...er...I mean BeyondtheBreach. 8O

How much did the pencil sell for?  It might be better to auction off the boxes piece by piece so people don't realize what they are buying :)
