Did it appear on the Acaeum boards?

Oh yeah....forgot about that.

The one in the Acaeum library is labeled with place names, etc whereas the one in the auction is not. Interesting. Were those written in by hand by someone based on the description in the Domesday Book text?

Ah, "welcome Elf"... :)

I thought Frank had edited those out for the sale but it looks rather neat on the pass, for example, if so.

*awaits confirmation, interested*

I've double-checked on another copy of #13 in my possession, and the placenames are indeed missing from the Domesday published version.

There is an accompanying article in D13, details from which could easily have been written onto the map here.

Hmmmm.... where'd our file map come from?

Your "file" or the Acaeum "file", Frank?

If the latter, I presume that was scanned from the copy Mike/<IO> bought, in which case it originally belonged to RJK(?).

Didn't look "written on" (apart from the mill, phps?) but I guess that's the most obvious explanation, rather than two print runs(!).
Think I'll dig out some period handwriting to compare, later, since I can't see any particular differences in the script on the map/grid.

Thanks for checking. :D

Yes. There appears to be at least one other item that was not part of the box set to be includded with that lot.  With this one I would say a hex refers to more than a spell :)

From what little of the hex sheet is showing it looks a lot like the ones that came with Fantasy Trip's Melee and Wizardry.

The Acaeum scan is/was my personal copy, which I obtained in a stack of other loose materials about ten years ago on eBay.  Most of the material was RJK's -- a sample dungeon map or two, some correspondence, etc.  When we tried to verify the origin of the items, RJK indicated that he suspected they were part of a large theft of D&D material from his home many years ago, though he wasn't sure.

Somebody later told me the map was identical to the one published in Domesday #13.  Obviously, there's a few differences.  The final version of the map appeared in First Fantasy Campaign by Judges Guild.

Interesting... Thanks for that info, Scott. :)
The Acaeum scan appeared at roughly the same time as Paul was in touch with RJK to pull together items for auction and/or referred back to the previous failed sale, so I presumed it tied in with that.

Loose sheet, then, rather than yet another(!) Domesday #13: in which case, titled on an original page and then repro'd, perhaps?

Indeed. That would be only the second copy I've ever seen.
