I would imagine Boot Hill is in greater demand because more people are familiar with it.  When I was a kid many of the people I knew who were hooked on D&D also dabbled with Star Frontiers, Gammaworld, Indiana Jones and Boot Hill.  Gammaworld and Boot Hill were of interest primarily due to the conversion charts in the DMG (I'm sure I'm not the only one who fantasized about what my character could do with a suit of powered armor).  I don't recally any of my friends being interested in, or even knowing, that TSR did anything other than RPGs.

Really cheap boxed sets, appear to be incomplete, though.

I look at that spiral bound and almost put it in the same league as that book a while back which was recovered with the dog fur.

Looks to be in good shape.  Sellers shipping price of $10 is utterly preposterous, but if you subtract it from your bid you should be okay.

It's a good thing I am not a "gotta have everything" uber-collector.  Wouldnt mind having one of these but quite frankly the prices on these are getting downright insane.  If I am not mistaken the last two of these sold for around $100.  And I believe a couple of months before there were two that sold for around $60 - $70.

Why does Boot Hill go for ungodly amounts and similar items like Bio-One, DGUTS, Tricolor, etc. go for so much less?

That price is sheer insanity.  This is the kind of item that may fluctuate given certain bidders being interested at certain times. The next copy may go for under $100, or $200.  They actually seem to pop up fairly frequently....

The "Good" game factor is involved. Boot Hill is a blast. Anyone who has ever played - especially the giant saloon bar room brawls that encompass the entire town - know what I mean. I make a point of finding BH events at Gen Con - always with miniatures. They are fast and fun events.

So I think the fact that it is simply a great game and many people probably have great memories of playing, factor into the price.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

At least you can wipe yourself with the fur-covered book.  I'm not so sure about the spiral-bound one...

Does anyone know how the magazines are bound into the binder?  To me binder means that the magazines are whole punched.  But when I bought my lot of Strategic Reviews and 1st year Dragon mags they were "bound" into a hardcover that basically just pinched the spines together (no damage to the magazines).

Ian, how were your Imagine magazines bound in?

From looking at them, these magazines seem to be bound into the notebook by metal bands that are straddled by the magazine's saddle stitching.

In other words, they look like they are undamaged.

White Dwarf Binders have a number of thin strings which run along the inside of the spines. You open each magazine up to the middle - and slide it under a string.  Each individual magazine is 'bound' in to the binder by being held tight against the spine by a string (if I recall, there are about 12 strings per binder).  You can remove the magazines that are bound in. However if the strings are really tight, you may crinkle or tear the edges of the magazine slightly (although can always just cut the strings).

One thing to look for is how the binders have been stored.  If they have sat upright on shelves for a while the strings may cut in to the spines of  each magazine a little at the bottom - as gravity pulls the magazines down against the strings.  If they have been stored flat and not opened and shut too much - there should be very little wear. It is quite an ingenious design.

I also think the binders are prone to acquiring a peculiar smell after a while in storage - kind of musty old paper.  It varies according to storage conditions.

The Imagine binders are the same. In fact the blue Imagine binder and the blue White Dwarf binder are almost identical. As these were UK only, I imagine they were made by the same company.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

THis set is up again:

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Original-White-Bo ... dZViewItem

$500.00 opening bid again though.  :? As noted the last time this auction was up that is a very nice looking 5th print set and a pretty decent OCE set as well as all supplemtns including both a Lizard logo Chainmail and a GK Chainmal.  Starting bid is high but may be worth tossing a minimum bid in there.

<edit> There is also a nice looking "War of the Ring" in there too.

Hey Mike,

the insanity is not going to end until I get what I'm looking for.
If you have a good condition 1st ed Boot Hill, you should sell it to me
for $150, then pick one up for yourself when they're going for
$60.  You'll make a killing.  Should be able to pick yourself up a nice
set of DragonLance modules with the difference.
