Fifth print white box set.  Only 4 hrs. and 33 minutes left.

http://cgi.ebay.com/1st-Edition-Dungeon ... dZViewItem

Am I missing something?  Even with the fact that the starting price is $100 and the seller only has 6 total feedback with only 1 sale in the last year I would still think that this is a bargain with the recent prices for the 4th and 5th printings.  Is this the market taking a downturn or will the newbie's not even go near this one?  :)

It might be the picture that's killing it.  Would be nice to see all corners of the box and books.

Not sure what to make of this:  Dragon #2 through 199 (with only a few issues missing).  Listed in "Books", zero feedback seller, 6 hours to go and issues #2-13 are three hole punched . . . but, if someone isn't too concerned with condition  :D  they might never find another opportunity to get them this cheap . . .

White boxes (including OCEs) are "jumpy".  The price depends entirely on how many newbies gotta have it, and how many resellers have spare cash in a given week.  In short, the prices on them make no sense at all.  That's a nice one, though.

This newbie would have gone for it but the seller wanted to "stick to the continental US" as this was his first sale. :?

And I was sniped at the last second in the early hours of this morning by the same winner, 'the collector's trove', on a nice fifth (I think) print box set complete with supplements. :(

One day, I'm going to find a shrinkwrapped 4th print and I'm going to open it.

Interesting...

That's one I've never seen??? Copy???

Or, maybe it's a variant 2nd edtion with a 1ed cover... (possibly overstock)

It's so hard to say with these early editions. It wouldn't be a stretch for them to use extra printed 1ed covers if they ran out of 2nd's.

Anyone here doing the legwork?

This is what he said to me:
..........
I am a old-time historical miniatures wargamer from Michigan, USA.
Many of us in the Indiana, Michigan and  Wisconsin area knew Gary
Gygax and bought the games he created, most of which are historical
(at the time).  We knew him because we attended the same gaming
conventions.  Even Chainmail is historical to our standards.  After
all the sub-title is "rules for medieval miniatures."  Therefore we
all bought the early versions of this rule set.  Once my copy sold
for $575 dollars, I alerted my friends.  One of my old time friends
asked me to sell his copy via the same method.  He is not too savvy
with the internet.  His copy as it turns out is a little different as
described on EBAY.  We both thought we owned the first addition but
alas we did not.

Unfortunately, we did not buy much in the way of fantasy in the 70s
or 80s but I am sure we may dig up some first editions of the D&D
rules set for many of us remember buying that for the novelty.  But
it has been a long time and searching through old stuff can take time.

No:  this rules set was bought at  a local wargaming convention
contemporary to the times give or take a year or two but no more.
This is an authentic if not age-worn edition of the classic Chainmail.
