Thats actually one of the main reasons that I started sniping items that I really want.  Too many eyes out there looking at your bids.

Well, here's something this thread is useful for!  :)

I recently compiled a list of print differences between the 1st printing (F116R) and the last printing (3rd edition). But...my 1st print is missing the reference sheet. In this auction, jasonw1239 (an Acaeum member, btw) has kindly provided a full-page scan of the front and back of the reference sheet. Fairly high resolution, as well. Not that I note any big differences (other than hobbits->halflings), but now I can update my list for completeness' sake.

Thanks for posting, Bomb!

I can't believe that Ebay allows that.  Well, yes I can, but I don't think they should.

Try doing a search on any German bidder's bid history and you'll notice that you can't...

No longer highest bidder.

I don't get this "don't post auctions" lark, btw.
IIRC there was a vote held and a considerable majority were of the opinion that it was OK to post any auction, any time. And, anyhow, the person who set up that poll continues to throw in low/minimum bids on many auctions in the hope that no-one will call them here and they'll pick up the items on the cheap.

Like I said, seriously don't get people trying to play the game both ways. :)

Anyhow; would be just as easy to make a post with permalinks to current bids by likely "interested parties", since a good number of people will doing that, too; even if that's not flagged constantly in front of the whole board.
No-win situation?

Well since this is me you are talking about let me chime in......

I am pretty sure it was not me that created the poll. The poll was a reult of lively discussion between bclarkie and myself posted by another member. In that discussion (removed now) I even posted a link to my bid list. And for the record I apologize for most of the things I said in that thread....there was more than one person here having a bad day when that happened.

The poll was not about posting items others had bid on. It was in connection to how rare some people thought an item should be to be posted here and that I sometimes posted items going cheap that were not all that rare but had a good resale value....not if someone had bid on an item.

I do support posting any item here but have always or tried to observe the don't post auction where a forum member is the high bidder. I can stop this if it is deemed socially acceptable.

As to my bidding on item so they do not get posted here that is not my intent and nothing could be further from the truth. I always figure somone here or external is looking at what I amd bidding on. I often post an item here and bid on it. I sometimes do this to watch an item that I may eventually bid on again, I do it sometimes in place of posting here as I again assume some here watch bids, I sometimes do it if it is an item I want with a BIN that is more than I want to pay but am afraid that someon may use the BIN and most often it is done to bid on an item I would like to get for that bid but most often never do. I will add my bid list to my signature file if anyone has any concerns about that.

And I am sure this makes no difference to you but where do you get off posting like you know why I do anything? Being omniscient must be nice. And let me say I find exceedingly arrogant and rude the slander about me (since you are making refernce to me earlier) trying to play the game both ways...even if you do post a smiley face after it.

Oh and since this is what the thread is for.....

Ful set of LGJs less the map from #2......

The seller on that Living Greyhawk lot says the map from #6 is on his wall.

Anyone know where I can get that map?  I recall an online map, but does anyone know where to look for a paper copy?

In which case, no complaints when anyone posts auctions you're bidding on. Thanks for clarifying that, Marl. :)

Was kinda easy to misread that thread-burying exercise and misc. comments appearing to hint that you expected others to go along with the same "don't post auction where a forum member is the high bidder" ethos.

No I will complain the moment others complain. Why do we make excuses or defend the people who won't observe the unwritten rules we have unofficially been living with. I had been living by that rule and was a little miffed when others did not but I did not make a big deal of it I just called attention to it. So is it accepted here to post auctions even if others are the high bidder now? If so then when I do it I will make sure the people affected know it was "your will" we are doing this because others tend to observe it.

As to the thread burying...I did that once and have apologized for it. I see much more of that here done by posting irrelevant messages in the thread here to push items off pages....or so that seems. So no I don't condone that either. We all may do something we later regret it is when a habit is formed that there is a problem. Usually people take an apology and unless it happens again they don't keep bringing the issue up.

Hello...my name is Marlith...I once posted interesting items to move an auction with a set of Dragon Magzine Archive CDs down a page. I apologize for this and swear to never do it again. Can everyone please please please forgive me this terrible act?

Will that work for you?

And by the way some crazy bidding on that one dark tower wasn't it? I guess your preconceived max was that $24.99...not worth $.51 more was it?

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0005288043

Was that one of those cases where I throw on a low bid just to keep it from getting posted here?

By the way I am done with this topic. Moving on to things that matter.

And since this thread is for this sort of thing.....possible PHB worthy of attention. Seller said they were sort of yellowish when ask about the endpages. I was not clear enough in my questioning....

Forgive you?  That's the best thing I've read in this thread all year!  Good tactic!  (If anyone truly thinks the DMA is "interesting" -- try to get out more.)

I've gotta ask though -- why the heck do you post items you're bidding on?  Second thoughts?  Insane level of altruism?  Know the seller personally and think he's a swell guy?  I just don't get it.  :)

I'm betting 3rd print, based on the other books.  Don't blame me if you miss out on a mustard-stained T1st, though.

I would refer you to what was said about ways to prevent private offers from the brothers...in some cases. In a case or two it has been bidders remorse and hoping someone outbids me. Another is to make sure an item gets noticed....covering all the bases as it were. As I said I am sure there are others who don't post here that follow our bidding habits. I was also under the assumption that we were trying to gauge the value of items here and advertising helps make sure an accurate value is acheived but I don't want to get into that again

As to the DMA it was me trying to get a bargain...I tried to bury it on a second page so I could get a good deal...kind of defeats the post above but heck that is why I am apologizing.

I am not going to bid on the PHB. If it is a T1st then the BIN is a good price. If not there is no way to win on that auction. I won't blame you  :)

I did think it was poor form for Faro to put in the permalink to Mark's bid list.

Even if the experienced guys (and/or girls) know how to do it, the idea could have been expressed without actually doing it.

BTW I didn't know how to see someone's bids, was interested, but wouldn't use it. I'll actually be a bit worried others are looking at mine - my wife is seriously considering buying her sister padded underwear (for shaping) and I'd be paranoid everyone would think they'd be for me    8O  :?

And for those that are thinkng of looking, no she hasn't bid yet.  8)

Hey Ship, if you really thought about it, I am sure you would see why this is such a good thing.  Being able to see other people's bids is the main way that we are able to help protect the ebay community from the "bad guys"?  How do you think bclarkie (and others) sniff out all the shill bidders?  By searching out their auction history and looking for patterns.

It's part of being a member of an open community.  Sure . . . all of us are also buying prodigious amounts of porn . . . but, hey, that's what an alternate ID is for!  :D

Also, keep in mind that you can easily prevent this from happening . . . just choose to keep your feedback private . . . this not only hides your feedback from others, but it also prevents others from doing searches on your bid history.  There are negatives to go along with keeping your ID private . . . but you just have to weight the options and decide which one is best for you.

Whether or not that fits your definition, it is very wearing having to "worry" about whether it's OK or not to post anything here without the indirect, repetitive critique of "I didn't mention those two auctions because there were Acaeum members already listed as bidders" (EVEN if they were no longer high bidders!).

*

Silly and rather childish, IMO; just like long, re-re-edited rambling replies with phrasing such as "I will add my bid list to my signature file if anyone has any concerns about that" (called, please do!), "can everyone please please please forgive me this terrible act?" () and "So is it accepted here to post auctions even if others are the high bidder now? If so then when I do it I will make sure the people affected know it was "your will" we are doing this because others tend to observe it" (emphasis mine) (go for it...).

OK, enough already (like ya say, trying to get the "last word").

Either people can post in this thread without having to stress 'bout "complaints", or else it might as well be locked-down.

Personally, I still prefer to point out "interesting items" (and not just top-$ ones), to help keep hobby-interest levels going rather than form a silent cartel to protect "our interests". It's a close call, though.

TD #10, 11 in stated VF+ condition. Snit Smashing intact in #10.

Seller has #7-11 (OK, the "common" issues), but interest is focusing on #7, 8 leaving #10, 11 cheaper, for now. Poss. worth a watch, anyhow.

I had reservations about this thread from the very beginning, not because it isn't useful, but because I was sure it would be misused.

Mark, you may be able to order copies of LGJ#2 from Paizo, they had some awhile ago.  I've got a spare or two I'll be selling soon, too.

You can also download the published city map, as well as the unpublished sewers map @ the cartographer's web site @ http://www.melkot.com/locations/cogh/cogh.html
