This raises a question that I was wondering . . . all the owner would have to do is add the following items:

D&D Basic Rules (Player's Guide and DM's Guide)
D&D Expert Rules (Expert Rulebook)
D&D Companion Rules (Player's Guide and DM's Guide)
D&D Character Record Sheets (1981) (it's possible AC5 was not yet ready)
MSOLO1 Blizzard Pass (with 2 pens, because one always gets lost)
B1 In Search of the Unknown (Fourth print)
B2 Keep on the Borderlands (Fourth print)
X1 Isle of Dread (Fifth print)
AC2 Combat Shield and Mini-Adventure
AC3 Kidnapping of Princess Arelina

And then, PRESTO! the set is complete.  What is that in cost?  $40.00 for NM items.  Were they shrinkwrapped originally?  Even if so, it wouldn't be hard to get shrinked copies of the mods - bclarkie could probably make a dozen sets right now!

I'm almost certain it's not possible to source all those from a single seller in matching (NM) grade at that price.
Or are you offering? :)

Well, okay, maybe a little more and some leg work for the correct prints . . . but most these  "Acaeum collector types" probably have 50% or more  on hand already.  Certainly, it almost seems like it is the BOX by itself that is worth $300+ .

I have zero of those in NM condition. Probably a couple in VF, at best.
How 'bout you?

Beyondthebreach wrote:Certainly, it almost seems like it is the BOX by itself that is worth $300+.

It's strange how that works: an empty OCE box ain't "worth" much for some reason and an (effectively) empty woodgrain gets a mixed reception (possibly owing to condition for those?).
$300 for what's on the table, though... Yes, can see that given the Acaeum listing rather than anything else.
Will be interesting to see!

Any thoughts 'bout the mystique factor of the set: it's rare, has a kinda neat dragon on the cover and it is at the top of the list, but what else?
I've turned one down before, albeit that was a proposed trade rather than $.

Jade Hare cover = no interest at that price.
Never issued, so only of curiosity value to me, at present (and that some other person might be willing to trade for it). $150-200 perhaps?

What about a ST1 cover for a mere $1,500?

342 dollars... a reasonable price, I'd say. Although I would have put a greater bid, if I wanted to get this one.

Why in the heck is it so damn difficult for some people to spell the title correctly when the stupid book is right there in front of them???  :x  I have been doing a search every other day for the past couple of weeks for this thing and I keep coming up with zilch.

Doesnt really matter anyway.  The dumbass only accepts PayPal and I dont feel like trying to outbid Frank.     Who here can tell that I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

You have to think of outbidding him being like a young gun in the old west trying to take down one of the famous gunslingers :)

Not me . . . it's bclarkie you want to talk to.   :D

NM is always tough . . . but at least VF in a 10th anniversary set will satisfy most collector's, no?

Does anyone know who the winner of the 4th print whitey is?

Nice win, considering it's rarer than a 3rd print woody, especially in that condition.

*g*. Well, I was after your copy wasn't I, Stephen? And that's in better condition.
Thanks for the welcome back. (Was still waiting to hear 'bout your hobnobbing with Matthiessen & co., btw! Oh, and many thanks for the add to that latest package. Very useful indeed! ;))

Re. relative rarity of 3rd vs. 4th, I was hoping you'd poll for the number of copies owned by Acaeum members ('though 3rds were rarer than 2nds and 1st, IIRC?!).
Anyhow, if more than 5,000/6,000 were printed, I'd be surprised. Certainly no secondary evidence, afaik, for 10k+ far less 25k.
And I've still only seen one early copy without the address label at the back of M&M.

I recognise the ID of the winner, but not been in touch with them: they've been around quite a few auctions I've been after.

=
Congrats on that price Burnie Bros., btw, even if that feels like $100 over the mark, phps? A lesser seller might've been tempted to swap-out the lower half of the box and most people wouldn't have noticed the difference in construction had not you deliberately chosen to show both parts.
(re. which box types appear more frequently with 4ths/5ths, I'm still not sure how many of those have already been mixed-and-matched/swapped around even without any noticeable differential in the prices achieved. Time to batten down the hatches on that, though...? :?)

Heh, chalk that up to another bridesmaid for BC. :) Is this making it way to me for forwarding, BTW?

Oh, and the CCCs have to be loving you these days David.

Yeah, thought I was the one who used to run up a large number of runner-up positions. More 3rd & 4th places nowadays (and hidden, thanks to the snipes).

No, that'll be heading here direct: cleared that with the seller in advance even though I wasn't sure whether I'd be bidding. :)
Still trying to convince myself there wasn't a third item I had to forward via yourself with little-no notice, but cannot find the email from eBay confirming the message. Much appreciated...

(If CCCs is the TLA I think it is, the answer is "yes")

Don't talk to me about bridesmaid.... the weekend wasn't kind to me. I put in bids on around 10 of ooga-booga's auctions and although I won 3, I was bridesmaid 7 times. I don't mind losing if I'm in the middle of the field somewhere, but being runner-up leaves a particularly nasty taste in the mouth.

I was really hoping to win the character record sheets:

Damn you Bombadil - I checked the acaeum valuation guide before I bid and I'm sure it said $90 was top-dollar for that item. I thought I had it in the bag  :P

I think a lizard character sheets is one of those items I'm destined never to own.....

Regards

Mike

Frank sold his a lot cheaper than that, IIRC.

Don't know whether he held back any, but I certainly wouldn't mind one or two of the "standard" issue types to go with the unlisted variety I've got.
(Neat cover art, regardless of actual "value" in terms of usage!).
