So, I have been on a bit of a morrow project jag recently, and I purchased this four book set:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1

The seller isn't too communicative - but he did say "+$20" to ship to the UK (not sure if that means $20 or $20 more than the US shipping).
However
, this morning, before I had paid him, they arrived.  They were stuffed into a Global Priority envelope ($9.50 shipping).

So, I have sent him a thank you email.  But what should I offer to pay him - just the postage?

[ hmm, now I have written this I think the answer seems pretty obvious - but what the hell, I will post it anyway. ]

[edited to add apologies for putting this in general rather than non-tsr]

I'd say if you're happy with the service, but feel he's overcharged, and if he's already mailed to you before receiving payment, I'd offer him $15 for shipping. That allows him $5 for his time and effort which is about £3.

But then it's your call. I think $20 for a $10 envelope is a little excessive.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Presumably, you already have paid for the shipping.  Did you pay when you binned?  If so, then the $10 listed in the auction apparently covered it.

$10. That is what was stated in the auction, and what it cost.

Agreed.  You pay the BIN price plus the $10 listed in the auction.  Basta.

Gotta disagree in principle only.  It states $10 to ship to the United States.  (The overseas shipping is ridiculous.)

Ok, that's the theory, now the practical.  He's shipped the item before I paid, so he'll get whatever I feel like paying him, feedback be damned.  No way is he going to get away with charging +$20 USD, if he's also dumb enough to ship before I pay... ;)

$13.  As he does mention a $3 handling fee.

Then see if he complains.

If he does, ask what was so difficult about sending USPS GP that he needs to charge another $20.

Heh. Well according to the auction you actually agreed to pay $33 p&p, regardless of whether it was a BIN and you had to snap it up, or not.

"3.00 handiling fee.10.00 USPS flat rate shipping fee we accept all major CC> cheks and money orders as well as paypall. all must be varified befoer shipping. +20.00 to ship oversees"

Good luck with the negotiations, but I suspect they'll probably be happy to be paid for the item plus whatever you decide :)

His shipping costs line is so screwy it is almost impossible to interpret... but...

From another auction where a question was asked, it looks like it was, for US shipping, the $3 handling fee plus the $10 postage fee, or $13. I *think* "+20 overseas shipping" means that the cost would be $3 handling + $20 postage, or $23, not the $3 plus $10 US + $20 overseas...

I'd send him $23 for overseas costs plus handling, not to the US AND overseas costs plus handling...

Let's see if I can make this easier to understand...

You've got a +2 strength bonus to hit the red dragon and a sword that's +1, +3 against dragons.
In that case, you'd add +2 and +3 = +5 to your dice roll.

However, the above auction states "10.00 USPS flat rate", not "+$10 USPS flat rate". Ergo it's not an either/or, but both... that would be the sensible default to presume, anyhow. (i.e. seller loathes selling abroad).

Hey, whatever, it doesn't really matter... You're still toast, anyhow!
(Save vs. dragon breath to only be charred to a crisp on one side...).

I agree that $33 is what the seller intended.  Since he's unclear, I would only pay $23 shipping and handling.

Has he responded to your thank-you e-mail?

Come on, don't pay $33, or $23, pay $13.00!  Its the cost plus $3.00, anything else is to much!

Yeah, $13.00 is fair.  Maybe he even thought it would be more for overseas and thus put in the +20.00 (if not in a GPM it probably would have been aournd $20.00 or more based on weight).

Maybe I'm just too generous, but personally I would pay his request. After all, his shipping service was the best you could expect, plus he proved to be very trustful. In the same situation, I'd pay him what he asks for. I'd feel the surcharge to be compensated by the excellent service.

But again, maybe I'm just too generous.

Thinking a bit more about it, I'm surprised Global Priority was only $10 to London.  I just sent youffie's MM and DMG via Global Priority to France, and it was either $18 or $24 (poor short-term memory).  I believe there's a fixed rate for whatever you can stuff into one of those Tyvek envelopes up to 4lbs.

...well, you can all call me Steve Skinflint from now on - I paid him $10.00 shipping.  There was no packing or padding, just books and envelope.  However, to be fair, if he asks politely for more I will send him some 'handling' $$$   :)

Good boy.  Fair enough.

Just out of curiosity, was it a Tyvek Priority enelope, box, or what?
