It popped up again and I reported it again.  Not sure if it was the same user account though.  The disc was the same (down to the handwritten title).

This Seller discussed above one month ago is expanding his operations.

eBay listings

Now you can get Dune and Magic Realm on DVD plus many more titles.

Ebay Australia must think it is OK. I suppose anyone could buy them copy them and then sell them for less.

Nothing is being done about the Avalon Hill pirating.  The General Magazine has been pirated by 3 or 4 individuals for over 5 years now.

Plus the guys at ahgeneral.org have setup shop in Michigan and have been selling reproductions of games and magazines more than this seller in Austrailia for years.  There are others as well.   Hasbro has done nothing to defend its copyright on any of these Avalon Hill Titles.

My guess is the copyrights on the magazines are so messed up becasue ownership passed back to the original authors in some cases that Hasbro isn't trying to do anything.

By not defending there copyright the items will end up in the public domain anyways.

A user of copyrighted materials only needs to demonstrate that the copyright owner had a history of not defending it's copyright.

As an aside, I have heard rumour that Hasbro are open to offers on the licencing of 1E AD&D in it's entirity. While not surrendering IP ownership, there presumably is scope for a licensee to reprint, alter, amend, reproduce, market, and use the AD&D monikor. We're talking million dolar deal here, but surely doable by some organization or consortium. Any rumours like this in the US?

Reported him.

I pointed out to Ebay that even if this guy used to work for TSR there is no way he has the right to resell electronic copies...not to mention somehow owning rights from multiple publishers.

His "I HAVE RESELLERS RIGHTS" thing just shows he knows what he is doing is illegal.

This guy even says in the description that he spent a lot of time at the copy machine making the photocopies.

He should just have picked up the Dragon CD and printed them from there.

AND

your choice of one of the Dragon issues except for 34 and 46

Reported him.

Not only is his listing illegal, it is also tricky.  You can have one of the Dragon magazines pictured...but not one of the two he really likes!

NO. I am not that seller. I also reported this person. I only posted that text from that auction because I thought it was patently absurd. I literally laughed out loud when I read that in the auction...

I am a programmer by trade and I know how hard it is to write and sell software and make any money off of it, and I absolutely respect the rights of all the wonderfully creative people out there that work long hours making my life more enjoyable. I don't copy and sell copyrighted materials and never will...

This seems like the most relevant thread in which to ask - what about authorized copies?

For a time, Columbia Games produced copies of some of their OOP Harn books.  These came with color maps (or color copies of maps - it varies).  I bought a collection that had a few of these, and as I've upgraded to originals, I've moved my copies into the extra/resell pile.

What are your thoughts on reselling these, assuming that I fully disclose what they are?

Also, that same collection had one unauthorized photocopy.  I would not resell it, but I might want to throw it in as a freebie with a purchase.  Is there a problem with that?

Some of the Ebay sellers here will have to chime in on adding a photocopy of an item to the actual item.

A photocopy of an item you actually own is certainly OK to make and keep.
