I implore some of you to take better care of your collections! Plastic covers and boxes!

There's a topic:  Are the plastic sealed freezer bags I'm using gonna save my collection long term?

What is the advantage of boxes on the floor (with the potential for water and other incidents) as opposed to a shelf?

What else should I be doing?

Not that this thread has been on topic for some time (and being a Maxwell clone, that's to be expected...)

Anyone care to try tuning this to "How big is your rare collection?". *g*
As in http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/rares.html ; either on completeness - 1 tick per line (no bonuses for having 3 3rd PotVQs and 2 4ths(!)) - or quantity (total number of rares)?

What's that, then? 101 lines to tick off, anyhow.

=
Yeah, it's just as silly as the original question, I know... :D
[more interesting subquestion might be what is /missing/ from that list, d'you think?]

I have the two Adventurer's Guild modules in my shop. That's it. No other rares for me. :(

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

For fun, then; and deliberately setting myself up for Paul, Bill, Scott & co. ... ;)
- 55 on completeness (missing about 8 "cheap" rares), ~102 on quantity (plus a stack of spare 1st-4th print OD&D books w/o boxes for research purposes)

OK, Stephen. For starters/any thoughts, and sticking to relatively safe ground to begin with... ;)

A few others I haven't added since they were not available/sold to the public
e.g. - Original D&D ms. (copied), as circulated by EGG (5) (questionable on "availability")

Could also remove a few items from the list
e.g. - Strategic Review issue #3 (3; albeit a high 3)
(and the covered Jade Hare and OD&D pre-pub.... *coughs*).
I'll skirt around the non-TSR/distributed by TSR, too, both for poss. adds & removes.

=

- Domesday Book (single line entry: torn between putting "any issue" and those with Chainmail/OD&D content (5,6,7,11,13)(?)) (5)
- Greyhawk 2nd print (4)
- Blackmoor 1st print (4)
- Character Record Sheets (1977, lizard ; single line entry) - complete pads and side-tear variants are scarce enough to merit a (4), overall, I think...

- G1 Steading of the Hill Giant Chief (1st print, lizard) (4, low?)
- G2 Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl (1st print, lizard) (4, low?)
- G3 Hall of the Fire Giant King (1st print, lizard) (4, low?)

=

- Would leave OD&D 1st print as a single line (5), despite the late (variant cover U&WA) and early releases (which they had to shoe-horn into the boxes).
- Greyhawk 1st print, price not altered (5) is at least as significant as the tourney mods (DM/Staff/Designer) that have separate line entries. Unknown whether this one made it to the public, though, or is genuinely pre-pub...

=

And back onto the old question re. the main listing of various GW items, but not the core "classic period" products printed aboard, or actual TSR periodicals.

- Basic Rulebook (UK; 1st/2nd print) (4; high)
- Basic Rulebook (Australian; 1st print) (5)

- G1 Steading of the Hill Giant Chief (Australian) (5)
- G2 Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl (Australian) (5)
- G3 Hall of the Fire Giant King (Australian) (5)

- D1 Descent Into the Depths (Australian) (5)
- D1 Descent Into the Depths (UK) (4)
- D2 Shrine of the Kuo-Toa (Australian) (5)
- D2 Shrine of the Kuo-Toa (UK) (4)
- D3 Vault of the Drow (Australian) (5)
- D3 Vault of the Drow (UK) (4)

- Monster Manual (UK; 1st/2nd print) (4; high)

- TSR-UK Hobby Newsletter (any issue) (5)
- Players Association News (any issue) (4)
- Players Association Broadsheet (any issue) (4)
- Bohemian Earspoon (any issue) (4; high)

=

That'll do for now, anyhow...

Interested to know what you were thinking, Stephen. :)

None. Never had a D&D rare, never will, find most of them skull-crushingly boring. I've got some interesting wargame-type stuff, but I suppose that wasn't the original question.

One exception: I'm sort of intrigued by the OB3 and I've been known to throw a few bids out ... but, honestly, I seriously doubt I'll ever end up as the high bidder.

So ... my answer is zero.

How could anyone not find a 10th Anniversary Collector's Set interesting and intriguing?

.... :?

*shuffles the mud-brown slipcase around the floor with one foot*

Yeah, OK; definitely agreeing w/you on some of those.

Random Thoughts thread? :)

Right, most of them, not all — there are some intriguing items on the list.

Oh, and I guess I'd forgotten that the early Dragons are on there, so I amend my earlier statement — my new answer is "very few." :)

David, pre-eminent post, as usual.  I agree with most of what you listed.

Nice to see you here again, by the way.  Where've you been?

As I was sawing through the back of the skull of a female muskox today (dead, of course), trying to ignore the mosquitoes, I was thinking about this thread.  I've got a couple of suggestions, but will hold off for now.  The main thing occupying my thoughts right now is how to get to Station Nord, which is at the absolute farthest north piece of land on the globe...

More later, I think.

Yummy... :)
Ah... you mean real mosquitoes, not the pesky swarms of harmless critters which added to the fun whilst cutting up livestock for the kitties down in FL.

Laid up with 'flu-like virus for most of the past week: hence the occasional post at 5am and suchlike. Need more fresh air, away from all these people... :?

Seems like the supply 'planes are few and far between, but at least the weather's fine up there just now (so it says online...).

Are you sure your second name's not Rasmussen, btw? ;)

Looking forward to those suggestions & Best wishes for the travelling & ongoing work.

David.
