My thanks to Mike (BadMike) for the cool looking miniature/diorama.

Brings up a question.
What is the best least destructive way to remove a bad paint job from metal miniatures? (Lead based)

Submerge them in some Pine Sol for a day or two then go at em' with a toothbrush.

I recommend covering them in Simple Green for about four days and then scrubbing them with an old toothbrush. Use a toothpick to pick out the really tough to get out flecks of paint.

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.

I the paint is really obnoxious, trying brake fluid. Messy but works like a charm

I've used various paint strippers too. Works like a charm but the fumes from some can be noxious. Doesn't hurt the lead either.

I'll also vote for Simple Green as my best all-around paint stripper. Pine Sol has not worked well for me, and I've never tried brake fluid.

For my absolute toughest jobs, this stuff works like a charm (but you need to wear gloves):

If you haven't tried Super Clean (used to be Castrol Super Clean), it's by far the best I've used to remove paint.

It even removes Testors from old lead AND plastics without damaging the figures. Soak in Super Clean for about 4 hours, brush with toothbrush, rinse, DONE!

I'm going to give that a shot. Looks like it would be a lot safer than some of the other chemicals, certainly the paint strippers. They have it at my local hardware store too!

Pine-Sol is good for latex paints on lead, OK with enamel paints, and a toss-up with old plastic minis. It is cheap, readily available, and not overly toxic.
