What's going on here?  Has this seller been indexed?

** expired/removed eBay auction **

The seller has several other items that I've seen with extortionist shipping charges.  Given the amount of these we've seen lately is there a problem going on or just greedy sellers?

Since this thread seems pretty active, I thought I'd add that it's always possible to report these sellers directly to eBay. The company takes a very dim view of sellers trying to circumvent end-of-auction fees.

To give eBay credit, the "report this item" feature appears on every eBay listing, and it is incredibly easy to use.

+++++

Just for reference purposes, here's eBay's views on excessive shipping charges.

This guy is a piece of work:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

I wouldnt mind paying about $40 for the item but it'll be a warm day in Jotunheim before I pay $40, or even the $20 for UPS Worldwide Express to have it shipped here.  :?  This is the same guy who has the OCE and supplements mentioned in the Interesting Items thread.

Bleh.... :x

I happened to be reading through this seller's ad and came to the shipping charges:

Please contact me with your shipping address within three business days of end of auction as defined in eBay's guidelines. Shipping and handling fees are an additional $6.00. Auctions can be combined to reduce shipping and handling at the following rate:
First item: $6.00
Second item: $5.00
Third item: $4.00
subsequent items $3.00 each.

Note how it says that shipping and handling fees are an additional $6.  Does that mean the seller charges $6 plus an additional $6 handling fee?  Either way if you win 2 items from this seller the shipping charge is at least $11 for "standard shipping".

Finally, this made me laugh:

Winning bidder to pay by a U.S. POSTAL MONEY ORDER, only (one purchased at the Post Office). Unfortunately, I only have a personal PayPal account and cannot afford to pay their outrageously high fees, so under the rules eBay and PayPal have imposed, PayPal is no longer an optional payment method.

This seller may not like to pay high fees but he sure doesn't mind charging high fees

And please also note that this is the same guy who sells all kinds of fakes and includes photocopies of stuff in his auctions as well.  He is the one who is the sole reason we created the the Game Lords Fakes thread in the Non-TSR forum  The guy is just flat out a scum bag, period point blank.  As Xaxaxe would say, I'd avoid him like an infected hooker....

Al, you are not required by Ebay to accept Paypal for  payment, you just can't say that you are charging additional fees for payment that way, nor can you restrict payments from redit cards.  Those are the violations that are No-Nos according to Ebays rules.

I would like to see a thread on sellers who take forever to send items, to be honest. I bought a copy of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (1st edition, Hogshead reprint version) and The Restless Dead module for the game (total $7 + shipping; I thought it was a good deal) and its been nearly 5 weeks and I still have not received them. :( I don't even want to mention the copy of Mutazoids I've been waiting on for nearly 8 weeks... or the guy that took 11 months to ship out a copy of The Keep (Mayfair Role-Aids module.) I have bad luck...

The sellers I dislike are the ones who charge nearly as much for combined shipping as they do for not... or, only offer one form of shipping. That's crap. If I want my stuff media mailed, media mail it to me... its cheaper, and believe it or not, somewhat more reliable, if slower.

Those who can, don't. Those who should not, do.

wow! sometimes if i am snowed under with stuff to do i might take nearly a week - i will get everything together and just do one trip, normally a friday. doesnt happen much but it does sometimes.

is that bad?

i try and get stuff off sharpish most times (ala. Zhowars Ironhoof highlands package just the other day) but you know sometimes other things take precedence.

5 weeks tho is a bit much :D

Ah...the ebay experience.  You never know what you are going to get.  In you case you got horribly bad service.  Maybe you could post a link to these sellers so we know who to avoid.

Not all sellers have the advantage of living a couple minutes from the post office (like me) but some of these people hold on to your purchase for weeks before mailing.  At the same time they expect you to pay for the item ASAP.  There's just something fundamentally wrong with that thinking.

On a positive note there are plenty of good sellers on ebay and many of them are members of this forum.
