Anybody care to reveal the most prized item of their collection? And perhaps how it was acquired?

It's my RPGA series.  They are in Fine+ or better condition.  And I love the art work.

Tough call.  At the moment, it's my UK Basic rules, 5th printing.  Just a really neat format.

That's a hard one to answer for me.

I love most of my stuff because most of it has more value in terms of the story behind it than "Oh, I just bought it somewhere."  I mean, ultimately that's the short form of how we got our stuff, all of us (unless it was given as a gift).  I would say, though that my copy of B2 is probably my most beloved item.  Because it's the first-ever D&D module I owned and it is the original from Way Back When, not one I just grabbed somewhere.

The next in line would be my DMG.  Not the true-1st I found at the local used bookstore, but just a nondescript revised edition.  However, I took it to the Milwaukee Gamefest back in '04 and got Gary to sign it for me.  That makes it pretty special.

I reckon that'd be the one.

My red Basic Box set (condition now poor), xmas gift from my brother that started this whole playing RPGs.

Other then that the most prized would be the Wilderlands of High Fantasy box set I got signed by Bob Bledsaw and 5 other writers/contributers.

My beat-up first print PHB...for reasons that have nothing to do with collecting.

My Gencon badge, signed by Gary Gygax.

Wonderful answers and no less than expected. It's mostly what it means to my identity, my memory that determines it's value.

For me, it's my original set of orange dragon dice. It was the first RPG item I bought for myself. Nothing else is close.

OK, here we go again.  Sorry if I sound like a broken record...

Oz Basic Rulebook.  On the eBay listing it was half hidden behind some other stuff and it looked like someone had either coloured in the front or the image was very poor.  But I just had a gut feeling knowing what the Oz monos looked like.  So, AU$5 won it.  Plus AU$15 for the postage.

Oz Dungeon Module pack.  It was plain to see what this was and it didn't come cheap (David probably has a record of the price  ) as it was posted here.  But I wanted the Oz monos and this was a great opportunity to get them all together.  But what the seller had failed to state and show was the front sheet

So, by pure luck, I seem to have ended up with 2 unique (for now) Australian items. :D

Past jewel would be one of the Fazzles. Present is pretty tough. Kalifax or Lair of the Spider Mother I would guess. Unless you mean value wise, then it's the woodie.

I just sat back and let you waltz straight in... Can't remember off-hand whether I bothered with a bid or said that I wouldn't. (Either way, that cost me! :))

Was it not somewhere around $225, John? Outrageous price, don't ya think, if so...

No kidding! ;)

What's the second one, John?

Heh, heh, heh.... Take those along to the next GenCon and display them in the "cabinet of the rares", Frank. :D

(Hold on a second: weren't there five adventures? Surely you must mean pre-pubs, then... Did they not do the last one? ;))

Probably my Inverness.

It was incredibly exciting getting it.  But it was even more fun running it for my son and his buddies last summer.

All right, all right, honest answer then.

For nostalgia reasons:

AD&D Players Handbook, x3. Not even True 1sts.
Previously owned by myself, Moldvay, & Cook...
All with handwritten names, mine with lengthy Gygax personal dedication & autograph.

I'm still working on Harold Johnson to sell me his.
But nobody seems to know where Law Schick went, let along his stuff. :/

I still have all the original 1st ed. rulebooks that I first owned. Also, my Deities and Demigods with Cthulhu is pretty special. When I first got that book, I noticed that it was different from my friends' copies. Let me tell you, I was quite upset . . . I even wrote a letter to TSR asking them to send me a replacement copy! 8O

Of course, back then I was just a kid and had no idea where to get a copy. Finally, one of my friends stopped playing and I convinced him to sell me his book for $20.00. He had to ask his mom's permission, but she Okayed it.  8)

OK, 1! Actually, I'm glad another one turned up. :D I was starting to doubt if it was genuine.

I've obviously been away too long. Where did you pick that one up from? eBay? Was there a scrap? How much?

And looks better than my copy.
