Hey all...

As much as I like the color and general layout of the "yellow" DM screen the content was always somewhat "lacking" to me.  Namely the devotion of an entire panel to Psionics   always left me a little cold.

Did the newer versions, with the Easley artwork, have more useful information or was it just new art and fonts?

'cause if they did have better stuff there then I'm in the market for one in good condition.

(Y'all know me - gamer first, collector distant second.)

If you mean this one:

It's my favorite. It comes with a player's screen too.

That's the one.  But someone over at K&K forums was kind enough to tell me what the differences in the screens is.  I think I'd like to have a copy of both that one (TSR9146) and a "4+2" TSR9028.  Anyone have copies of both they can spare?

I've heard (coincidentally on K&K) that some of the later-printings of the DM screen have different content than the earlier ones.  The one mentioned specifically was the 7th-8th printings; details @ http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/miscpages/dmscreen.html

Does anyone have a later printing that you can speak to the charts and tables listed on them?  My guess is that the additional info is from the player's screen; someone also said that the psionics content was replaced, too, perhaps?

Thanks for any help!

Ditto.
As a resurrected DM, I need a 1E screen that has a full layout of useful (i.e., no psionics) DM charts.
It's hard to believe how scattered the material is in PHB and DMG.

I took a look and realized I had more of these than I thought.  I checked 1st, 4th, and 7th.  Here's what I see for charts:

-= 1ST =-

2 panel screen:
Psionic Attack Upon Defenseless Psionic
Psionic Attack Ranges And Damage Adjustment
Psionic vs. Psionic In Mental Combat
Psionic Blast Attack Upon Non-Psionic Creature

4 panel screen (outside):
Fighters Table
Thieves Table I
Magic-Users Table I
Clerics Table I
Spells Usable By Class And Level - Magic-Users
Spells Usable By Class And Level - Clerics
Combined Weapons Table (Selected Information)
Hurled Weapons And Missiles
Armor Class Table

4 panel screen (inside):
Matrix For Clerics Affecting Undead
Grenade-Like Missiles
Opponent Armor Class Description
Creatures Struck Only By Magic Weapons
Attack Matrix For... (all five of them)
Assassins' Table For Assassinations
Saving Throw Matrix For Magical And Non-Magical Items
Saving Throw Matrix For Characters And Human Types

-= 4TH =-

Same tables, different layout as 1st, on two 3 panel screens.

-= 7TH =-

paper wrapper:
Player Character Ability Summary (MU, Ill, T, As, F, Pal, Rgr, C, Dr, Mk)
Fighters', Paladins', & Rangers' Attacks Per Melee Round Table

Players Reference Screen (outside):
Spell Tables (MU, Ill, C, Dr)

Players Reference Screen (inside):
Attack Matrix For Player Characters
Grenade-Like Missiles
Weapon Types, General Data, And "To Hit" Adjustments
Recovery Of Spells
Monetary System
Starting Money
Basic Equipment And Supplies Costs

Dungeon Master's Screen (outside):
Encounter Reactions
Detection Of Invisibility Table
Wall Climbing Table, Feet Per Round Of Climbing
Surprise Table
Listening At Doors
Types Of Armor And Encumbrance
Direction Of Attack

Dungeon Master's Screen (inside):
Attack Matrix For... (all five of them)
Armor Class Table
Gaze Attacks
Saving Throw Matrix For Characters And Human Types
Missile Fire Cover And Concealment Adjustments
Saving Throw Matrix For Monsters
Matrix For Clerics Affecting Undead
Saving Throw Matrix For Magical And Non-Magical Items
Creatures Struck Only By Magic Weapons
Combined Weapons Table (Selected Information)
Hurled Weapons And Missiles

Summary:

Latest version removes psionics, assassination, and information that you'd probably not use during a session (xp tables, etc).  Some of the latter is pushed to the Player Screen.  Substituted in are miscellaneous tables (Gaze, Detect Invisible, Cover, etc).  So the 7th might be more generally useful in more game situations, but I think 1st actually has the best layout.

Sounds like it's lucky seven, then.

Is it for 1E?
I don't know enough about 2E to even know if it'd be useful.

If we're talking only about the arrangement of the charts, then I believe the same content would be found in 8th as in 7th (and similarly 1st-3rd and 4th-6th would be content groups).  That's based on the notes at the acaeum page - I don't have all those versions to compare.
