Howdy,

Well, I hate to do it but...

I got that big lot I bid on and won:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Dungeons-and-Dragon ... dZViewItem

I wanted the AC5 in better condition than mine. Well dang if they aren't different.

AC5 #1 has three staples, an olive border around the cover art, is 1/32" taller than AC5 #2, and the whole image, text, et al., is 3/32" lower than AC5 #2.

AC5 #2 has two staples, a black border around the cover art, is 1/32" shorter than AC5 #1, and the whole image, text, et al., is 3/32" higher than AC5 #1.

The upper and lower staples are not even close to matching placement from #1 to #2. Further, the staples appear to be of different metal.

Does anyone else have a 3-staple version? The one up on eBay by Guido-the-Gypsy is a 2-staple version.

Futures Bright,

Paul

Good eye! I have both copies but had never noticed the olive vs. black border. Which would you guess is the earlier print?

I say it's the one on the left.

(Nicely picked-up, Paul).

Howdy Mike,

Your's has 3 staples as well?

My guess would be the slightly larger one with the olive border. The back of one of the sheets (the 8th sheet) is badly smudged and over-inked from the press and there is an extra set of staple holes 1/2" above the lower staple. Seems they had some issues with this print run. Could be the argument for this being a 1st print.

The other copy has no such flaws. What about your olive copy?

The copy with the olive border has 3 staples.
I dont see any additional staple holes anywhere.
No smudges that I could find either.
16 total sheets in mine.
The sheets are much darker green in this set also.
Also the perferations seem to be much larger.

I would guess this one to be the earlier printing also.
Probably cut out that 3rd staple to save money  :D

Nah, that doesn't work. They added extra staples after the first OD&D supplement printings. Must've cost them a fortune.

Sheesh, amateur researchers.... :P ;)

(need better than that, I think, Paul)
