I'm sure this may be old and tired but I didn't spot what I was looking for in the Search engine. I've just about rounded out the major (read, affordable) holes in my collection--that I'm aware of--and besides, I'm always looking for another "ready to play" that I've yet to experience. Uncommon=better in this case but all the same, as long as they are readily compatible with (A)D&D:

Just your faves (for whatever reason)...

Tomb of Horrors. Not laden with monsters (just one toughie really), the handouts have such nice artwork that the players miss all the traps and I like the fact that it's pretty damn tough to boot. As a standalone one off nothing beats it imho :)

T1

If you are more ambitious T1-4.

Really liked the G series.

S series.

The A series is my fave with A4 being my all-time favorite.  As others have said in another thread, first the players are really ticked off at what's happened to them, but then they realize this is a really special adventure that will test their characters.  It's a fitting and satisfying ending to the 4 part series.

Quite epic, but my favorite one is For Duty and Deity.

The Great Modron March is also very creative.

Tight race between U1 and X2.

Also have to put S1 in the mix though it lags behind the other two a bit. And I am still a fan of UK1 even though it is almost universally beat up whenever these types of posts occur

C3 Lost Island of Castanamir has always been a favorite of mine.  first time i ran it the players got real upset when they figured out that the "doors" weren't really doors.  they'd been carefully drawing a map as they went.  they came to love it though, and still talk about it today.

S3 Barrier Peaks.  I think it all comes down to it's the first mod I died in when I started out so there were some fantastic memories associated with it.  Other Fav's would be G-series, X2, and C1

Oddly enough, this changes every time I answer this question. It seems as time goes on and I reminisce about various games I DMed, I remember adventures that I had previously forgot.

So I forget them, remember them and remember that I forgot them. Ouch! I think I just pulled the brain tissue in my frontal lobe.

But right now I'm thinking of X4 Master of the Desert Nomads by David Cook & X5 Temple of Death by David Cook. That damn fake dragon! I played that up so the players would freak. Freaking sweet!

Ah, excellent choices. So many memories...I guess my favorite is still Castle Amber but Ravenloft, Horrors, Slave Lords, the UKs, Ts and Is are all fun. FWIW, I had fun with Paladin in Hell, once adapted.

Can someone tell me more about For Duty and Deity?

It's curious how most people in here stick with 1st Edition; I've almost never heard anyone mention a 2nd Edition module here.

I just figured because the site is mainly devoted to 1st edition or earlier D&D stuff that the answers would be in that era.

If it were for a 2nd edition I did really enjoy the God Wars series and one I can't remember the name ( firestorm peaks? ) but that was great also.

And TSR items. One of those things you do without knowing it. Tegel would be up there as would the CSIO setting.

U1, S2, and X2 were probably my favorites but WG4, WG5, and WG6 are all great also.

Hommlet for a great "starting" adventure. ... White Plume Mountain for the classic "puzzle" dungeon. ... The U series for overall theme and execution ... Barrier Peaks for a more experienced party.

Gotta pass on Tomb of Horrors; it just never did a thing for me as player or DM. I'm sure I'm in the minority with that sentiment, though ... (hey! stop throwing things at me!)
