just wanted to point out that the bloody margins all went doo-lally so the first figure after the food item is the weight in grams and the second figure is the calories of the item.

You're not allowing for the weight of the packing?

(And I presume there are no convenient litter bins in the Sahara, either?)

D'you have an extra salt source on top of all that or is that covered by those fancy electrolyte things?

And how many miles are you gonna run on that?

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Sounds great - if a little low on fibre

One thought - could you make up your own super-large pot noodle and pack it in tupperware. rather than relying upon the pre-packs.  In the cold desert night you might be glad of some hot grub?

Let's go fly a kite

you get given salt tablets at the base camp, when you do your checks before the start.

the weight of the packing: there is no packing, they are all in ziploc bags, food is crushed down for size and everything is minimised as much as possible to restrict weight. the initial weight so far will prb reduce more once i have finished.

ummmm you dont need fibre, cos theres no carbs pretty much in most things that has lots of fibre.

pot noodles are already taken out of the pots and are in ziploc bags. tupperware items are too bulky.

day 4 is the day in which you cover 76km, so will end up running most of the night (i am planning it at around 28hrs to do it), so a nice pot noodle at around midnight will just do the trick.

I love the way you say that so casually, Al! :)

Smart way to do things, I'm sure: that's one item that no-one wants to forget by accident!

Should've guessed that

So unless anyone has a portable hole handy...?

Are you going to be putting on a few pounds and carboloading to help the first day?

Even so, that seems not many calories towards the end...
Hey, but what do I know! :)

Enjoy ^^

erm i am a fat b'stard to start with, 5ft 10 and weigh 90kg, so i have plenty of fat content to utilise :)

the minimum calories per day is 2000. the last day is only 20km, so most ppl dont bother for that day other than breakfast and drink supplements.

day 4 - well i am shitting that one tbh, but moreso day 3 i think, as thats the dunes day.

ho-hum :)

It all looks so incredibly healthy, its giving me goosebumps.

*gobbles fourth chocolate egg of the morning, or as I like to call it "cigarette replacement therapy" *

Good luck, and try to bring an internet-accessible PDA with you, or you'll fall behind on the Acaeum post count.  Wouldn't want to lose your long-winded status!  :)

well if you can suggest something else that has v.high carbs and v.high calories and you can just add boiling water to, to eat, then hey i am all ears :)

and anyway, it wont be in my system that long, cos like 12 or so hrs later, the foodie contents will be getting the shit burned out of it :D

remember its the size of the food too and the weight of it. pot noodles are pretty much the highest content per weight.

as i say, i am all ears if you can think something up fast.

i am just sat here somewhat flummoxed atm, as all my gear doesnt fit into my pack, so some readjusting is gonna be needed, along with losing some of the food too :(

gonna have to sacrifice some gear as well.

*sigh*

Dunno... I might've suggested porrage oats to replace some of that (low glycemic index and all that jazz, too), but you Southerners might be expecting to make that up with milk and sugar. *g*

Or get a very slightly bigger pack... if you're OK running with that current one?

Did you list your gear, before? How many changes of clothes d'you have in there? (Arctic fleeces not required, I'm sure :D)
