normal running shoes are crap in the sahara. you need off-road stuff otherwise they just get simply trashed with the harsh terrain.

i was going to buy an iPod last time around but was advised not to. they dont do that great in 40-50C weather and their battery time isnt long enough and to be totally anal about it, they are too big

i have one of them lil tiny sony jobs. i have about 115 songs on it and its one of them ion battery things that you charge up on your USB socket - the battery lasts about 40-50 hours so thats perfect and it really is small and fits pretty much wherever you want it to - i took it last time and it worked a treat for me.

so there you go

i have some great music on it too - one thing i learned last time as well, because the event is so hard (and it really is, make no question of it), i didnt zone-out enough into the music and get kinda into auto-mode. thats something i will certainly do more of this time - all with prep n stuff.

am actually feeling a lot more optimistic this time round.

of course anyone who has any cool songs/music to recommend for walking for like 6-8 hr stints and more, please lets hear your recommendations
