I have one around here somewhere.

Cat. "4" are also "rares" by the list.

But that's always open to personal interpretation, too, IMO.

SR#3 is more like a "3" in terms of overall numbers for sale on eBay (over 100 in the past couple of years) whereas there's a strong case for the Ozzies mods, GH 2nd, OD&D 4th(-), UK MM 1st/2nd and various others being on a "rare" list.

He, of course the figure *100* includes a sizeable majority of a not so popular online reseller with a large amount of which is still in stock and currently for sale.

;) indeed!

Hey, I have a "block" of mint copies, too; bought quite some time ago. (And I do mean "Mint", IIRC).

Working on a monthly update.

If anything has changed since Jan 14, please let me know.

I've already taken account of the Character Archaics that a2jeff and I acquired since this list was compiled.

Many thanks,
Stephen

Thanks, Stephen. I'm still playing "guess who contributed"!

Interesting on the number of 1st vs. 3rd print woodgrains :)

It will go to the grave with me!  In fact, it already has...

Yes, one of the nice spinoffs of doing something like this is that it gets you thinking about the relative rankings of the rares.

:o ?

Yeah. Even though that's still far from complete, there are some interesting numbers (relative and absolute) in there!
Would certainly be interesting to see that expanded to cover some of the "not currently appearing on the main list" items, too.

One item that caught my eye was that you'd split-off the MM Errata sheet. How scarce is that really? :)
(Had also been told by one owner that that was included loose inside their purchase, contrary to the assertion here. Maybe that's why they're so "rare"? :P).

Looking at that list, I know that there is at least one *bigtime* collector(if not at least a few more) that must have not forwarded you their list of rares, because I know for a fact that I am not the only person on the board that currently owns a 10th anniversary pack.

Darn! Please don't reply so quickly when I'm trying delete my message, Brian! :P

(And yes, there are many more Sets around the community here than just that one... Hrmm...).

*g*. Just realised (again) that after campaigning for the vinyl First Quest to be downgraded from a "5" to a "4" that there has only been one for sale on eBay in ages, to the best of my knowledge.

Is still a "4" anyhow, in my book. Just a long gap between tracks.

Well, considering that there was run of at least 5 or 6 in 3 months time last spring, at the time it seemed to appear almost common. :?

Somewhere around that number/period, yes.

Even though that higher number was about the same as woodgrains just now (!), that still feels like it still averages out at "4": and a fair number of copies in second-hand (record) shops in the UK, too, I'm sure!
Not many woodies there...

Being that they also have a seperate listing up for 3 more, who still thinks SR #3 is a rarity 4? :)

<edit> oh yeah and then there is these too:

Why the heck are there so many of these available but not of the others?  Did they accidently run 20,000 instead of 2000?  I know it was the first stapled issue but that hardly explains it unless they went to a different printing company and got a volume discount.

*vbeg*. Is as good a theory as any other I've heard. There are a large number of high-grade remainders of #3, whatever the reason.

No-one responded when I asked back in 2004; viewtopic.php?p=9441&highlight=#9441
My copies came from a hobby-shop remainder stock sold at GenCon, so it could be that TSR blitzed the distributors with that one, judging by the relative scarcity(?).

=
Mailed copies of #3 (and the others) are still very scarce, however; even if the last lot- including #1- sold for a pittance!

thought this may be fun to revive again (missed it first time round) with bbarsh rarity coming up and the recent talk of RPGCA possible membership qualification   :)

Rolls a '3'

"Did I hit.....?"
