I tend to spend alot of money I admit. Most items that I buy go for less than the Acaeum values. The Dwarven Glory I just bought for $79 is worth what I paid in the stated shape(btw if there is a hole punched in the cover and eyeamgawd(Deadlord36) didn't state this I will expect a partial refund, it looked like a ink stain). If you want to talk about overpaying what about the auction that had three Wee Warriors items for sale. I say if you have the money don't be afraid to spend it, some items rarely if ever come up for auction and if you pass them up you may never get a copy. If anyone still doesn't know Burntwire is a team of two hardcore RPG collectors(brothers). As for bidding on items I already have I will continue to do this as long as I need all the printings or could use the item to trade or sell for a profit. I am not really a re-seller but if I can make a profit to further my collecting I will. I would like to thank most of the Acaeum members for backing me :) , and as for those few who are always complaining, would you like some cheese with your whine?  Ebay is an open market and everyone can bid as they like and should not complain about losing an auction to a higher bidder whether it comes at the last minute or not. Alot of Acaeum members have larger collections than me, I have only been collecting like a mad-man for about a year or so. When I played D&D in the 80's I had bought or received from freinds almost every TSR product produced up to the early 90's so my money can be spent on rare or non-TSR items.

Good luck and happy collecting,

The Burntwire Team

LOL Burnie, you can't be a hardcore collector if you haven't seen a remainder punch before. Send it back to me when it arrives and I will FULLY refund the money, shipping included! I can't justify a partial refund since you got a good deal to begin with, and you always could have asked me about it instead of seeing "Wee Warroirs Dwarven Glory" and blindly adding it to your snipe list. I checked the picture again and yes, indeed, it looks just like...............a remainder punch.

And BTW, when did you figure out there was a hole punch? You don't even have the DG yet! Did you go back and actually look at the picture this time?

I first thought it was a stain but then dbartman drew my attention to the fact that it might be a hole punch. The description you gave was "excellent condition with no writing or tears". The fact that you didn't mention a hole punch seems like shady dealling to me. You should have just left it at "excellent condition" or mention all damages. Giving only a partial description is deceptive! BTW I would not trust you to refund the money after all this BS. Oh, could you send me a list of my collection since you seem to know it better than me(I don't even have a complete list myself).

Well now...here is an issue that is near and dear to us all: Auction descriptions, pictures, and how they are interpreted by all the wonderful buyers out there.

This is how I look at it and I would be happy to hear some feedback:

1. A picture is worth a thousand words and I would take that over a written description. In fact, I do not bid on some sellers' items because they never post a picture (Cougarrinard, if you are reading this, invest in a digital camera. Your auction values will increase with the use of the picture).

2. One person's mint is another person's excellent is another's very good. As any collector will tell you: Once you find a person that grades to your level, they are worth their weight in polybags, scotch tape, and acid-free cardboard backers. Until then, any statements about condition are hopelessly subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt.

3. If you are unsure about something (stains, rips, holes, writing, etc) then ask the seller a question.

Now to the matter at hand about the hole punch. Deadlord could have simply put up a picture with no description at all and it would be fine. He can even state that there are no tears or writing and he is still in good shape because the hole punch/defect is clearly visible. If he had cut off that part of the picture it would have been deceptive. In fact, it looks like he made sure that it was plainly visible to the point where the other 3 corners were cropped out. Regardless, if anyone had any questions as to the nature of that hole (or even if it looked like an ink spot) then that issue should have been raised prior to bidding.  Deception would have been claiming something to be shrinkwrapped and it was not, the doctoring of images. or intentionally leaving a damaged area outside of the picture.

As for the offer of the refund. I would never offer a partial refund. I would offer an apology that the issue of condition is in question and offer a full refund of shipping, auction price, and even the fee someone has paid for a postal money order (remember, I am still out the cut I had to pay to ebay so I am down even further in this exchange). There is not much more that a seller can do. Burnie, please do not think I am trying to take sides against you. You may have learned the same lesson that I did about a year ago: when in doubt, ask a question and if you do not get an answer, do not bid...another one of the same thing will come up for auction soon, even rare wee warrior items which show up once every month.

-PD

P.S. to think I was at one time a rather quiet child that did not speak that often. It is amazing how the army can make one into a bag of wind.

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts indeed.

I totally agree with you on asking about the condition of items when not sure about it. I believe this one of the ebay basics, especially important for rare or expensive items.

Guys, could you please explain to me what a remainder punch is? I've never seen such a thing here in Germany. I looked it up in the dictionary, but I don't understand why they have to punch (and damage) the item. Is that because of its low sales price and to protect those buyers who paid the full price? If so, do they continue to do something stupid like that today or was that only "in the old times"?

from what I understand.. when an item is to be returned to the supplier ,when it has remained unsold, in the states books are generally holepunched through the cover (or even notched on the spine), these books are then usually on sold in bulk lots to discount chains (in fact o lot of these make in overseas to places like Australia)..

Here is the link, if anyone would like to view the picture and comment. Again, I will be happy to refund ALL of the money. I think you're being a little childish with the untrusting thing.

Beasterbrook is right on the money. That is exactly what is done with them. Realistically, a remainder DG would be rarer than one that was sold retail, I would think. Though if that made it worth more, we'd all just punch holes in them!

Oh Yeah, Team Burnie, just because I support you guys in philosophy doesn't mean I won't whine and complain if you snipe me and get something I thought I was going to get (or just plain outbid me)... It's the Loser's Code and I reserve my right to be publicly dissappointed. :)

(But that doesn't mean I think you're wrong/evil/etc... )

Burnie, let me ask you a question: Do you already have a 2nd print DG? If so, why did you bid on this one and deny someone else who doesn't have one the chance to own it? I could see if Cougarretard bought it to resell it to some sap, but I'm guessing you already have one. I do, and that is why I sold this one. I tried to trade it, but the eBay market seems to preclude decent trades.

Hi All,

Funnily enuff, I won a Dwarven Glory on Ebay, and that had a hole punch in it as well.

It was from a bloke called Frank Farris, back in December, but I never got it because it was damaged in the post and returned to him, so I cant say much about the punchmark.

Cheers,

malcolm

Malcolm! I forgot all about that! I am terribly sorry, I would have offered you this one this time around. I badgered the Post Office about it, and they gave me a check for it, after quite a while. If Burnie sends this one back, I will be happy to give it to you for the auction price from the last auction. BTW, I will most likely be getting 2 more this weekend. Both hole-punched, however. If I can get her to part with a few Misty Isles and PoVQ's, those will be up for trade/sale as well. She has a pretty decent stack of WW remainder stuff from when hubby owned a gaming store. Keep in mind that they are ALL remainders, though.

BTW, does anyone have Dragonlord?

I have seen a remainder punch before, but as a collector yourself you should have stated the fact in the item description(the item came today and is in excellent condition except fot the hole punch). I didn't own a copy of DG or I would have let it go at that price. I do not mind people venting as I am sure everyone can find something to complain about including myself and it makes for some good discussions on this forum. I snipe because it does not allow people to bid me up higher and higher. People constantly nickel and dime bids up for whatever reason. I also ask questions about most items I bid on, but since you are a member of the Acaeum and a collector I would assume you are honest in your descriptions(I always list any defects or damage on my auctions). Oh well, I am over it and intend to keep the DG(maybe I will sell it myself in the future and you can gaurantee that it will say that it was hole punched). Why is it that some people use several names on the Acaeum and Ebay?

Hell, snipe them all! lol

Uhm  well I think I should weigh in here only because I well do have a say aftyer all I did bid too.

I was fully aware of the punch when I bid what I did I bid it because I figured it was an after stock Punch and that since I did not have one and never had that I woudl bid it, Look it over place it back up when I was tired of it and try to sell it.

Now I did Win and Recieve the Wild Things and will also Add, I am very happy with it. Yup I will probably sell it too.

The only thing I have kept that I have purchased is Undermountain Boxed sets. Everything else I have been selling. I enjoy looking through them and reselling them.

I also have had a couple items that actually were my fault for the screw up in the discription. I offer the Buyer 100% Money back including postage. or I offer 50% and the keep the item or I even go so far as to find another of the item and offer it to them, in which case I offer to pay for the Shipping to them of the new item along with the cost of shipping to reurn the item in Question.

Now that is when I am in the wrong if the buyer is in the wrong or feel they paid too much for an item then its too bad for them, and I honestly have to say that an offer of a refund was in my opinion totally fair. It skind of like a Gambler walking into a csaino and giving every dime of their money to the casino and walking out complaing because they are broke is how I see it. ( Trust me I have been in both of these boats before myself)

Its Ok though because since I saved my money on that item I di dpick up three other lots of books, which I will be able to enjoy some other JG items Liek a tegel manor and a Modron.

Ok enough Beating the dead horse.

Hey lets use it for cover from the EBAY ORCS, ( Bloody bastards always steel my money)
