OK,

I know this has nothing to do with collecting but here it is, true believers:

I ran into an old friend who I had not seen in years. She has gotten married, and had a kid, a little girl. When I asked what her daughter's name was, she replied, "Kyuss".

Kyuss. She named the kid after the band, Sons of Kyuss, and when I told her that the kid was in effect named after a D&D monster, undead no less, specifically really creepy vengeful goopy undead, she pretty much told me to go F&*ck myself.

This story isn't going to perpetuate the misconception that everybody in BC smokes, eats, and shits marijuana, is it?

I wouldn't have had the heart to tell her, though. (Or is it lack of heart? Depends on your value system, I guess.)

I heard about a kid named Derro once - that was in WA state - wonder if this is a Pacific Northwest thing, kids named after D&D monsters...

Well, since she seems pretty pissed at you anyway . . . why don't you send her a Fiend Folio for Christmas? Make sure to bookmark the page too.

(It's not like her daughter isn't going to find out someday, after all. I can picture the scene in elementary school: )

"My dad pulled out this creepy book and showed me a picture of you. It was disgusting!"

And then the kids chant

"Kyuss, Kyuss, worms crawl in her head!

Kyuss, Kyuss has risen from the dead!"

Kids can be so cruel . . . :twisted:

i think son of kyuss monsters rock. i lobbed a load of them in part of one of the B4 lower levels....worked really well and was a blast watching the PCs react to them.

Not to nitpick (ok, ok, to nitpick), but technically it's her grandchildren that are going to be creepy undead, assuming they are male.

Her kid might turn out just fine...

Well, then there's this gaming couple I've met who named their son Raistlin... Awesome opportunity for a spit take, but I wasn't drinking at the time. Still, I stared at them rather funny for quite some time...

My son's favorite bands are Pantera and Kyuss, in that order. I've been a Kyuss fan for so long it's scary. However, his name is John. I debated naming him Stirge, but the wife would have objected.

I think you should send her a Fiend Folio for the holidays. Cheer her right up.
