Not quite sure where to post this, but I was sitting here kind of staring at my D&D shelves and it dawned on me that I seem to have a hidden hobby of collecting dice. It didn't hit me until I consciously stared at my huge plastic bag full, plus the green bag full, the purple bag full, and the 20+ Chessex containers of dice randomly sitting around the room. Maybe it's the rogue in me that's attracted to little shiny things, but wow. Dice!
So I was curious if anyone has any dice tales... How many dice do you all have? Do you have a preferred style or type? Do you have ones you consider lucky? Ever done anything with your dice when you've gotten mad at them (Smash them, throw them out the window, etc.) or retired a die that rolled well?
One guy that used to game with my group used to actually chart the rolls of his dice as though he could logically find a die that rolled more consistantly.
Another in our group lost a favorite character and therefore sacrificed the die that missed the roll by freezing it and taking a hammer to it.
Stepping on a d4 hurts. Talk about makeshift caltrops...
Waterdeep? Never heard of it.

i have a massive tin full of dice. allsorts of stuff.
looking around for tegel manors for david and shane at like 12.30am, i found this little bag on the bottom shelf, and it was a bag of plain orange dice, with a black crayon! what would these have originally come with?
i like clear dice with nice sharp/clear numbers on them. they are my faves.
any dice that roll really crap, i offload to one of the kids    and any that roll really well, i keep aside specially, just for when i need them!

I had a set of green percentiles that rolled double-oughts on at least 3 18-strength fighters.
Everybody
wanted to use them when they rolled up a character that had 18 strength. I've still got them, sitting on a shelf somewhere in the back of the house.

Had a dream about dice last night. Did some1 cast a spell?
Before I got back into AD&D recently, I had taken my dice and put them into a lamp. I still have some of the original plain orange dice that came with my basic set. Whenever I went into a new hobby store I would check to see if they had any odd or different dice.
Fave die = Black

with Red numbers (I can just picture Jason's mom from the movie Friday the 13th saying, "Kill her mommy. Kill her!")
I emailed my wife links to all the dice I want for Christmas. Anyone have any cool or weird dice?

Howdy,
Let's see, dice...
1. RP2 Percentile dice, do they exist?
2. I have my retired set of dice, the marbelized, blue, high impact dice that came with my Basic Set in 1981. They sit in a place of honor in my collection.
3. My friend's green dice from his Expert Set were so horribly rounded they had to be retired because we didn't have time to wait around for the die to stop rolling <checking watch>. In their last battle the 20 sider rolled 5 20's in a row and the d6 rolled 12 consecutive 6's for a fireball blast from a level 14 wizard. One of the 20's was against Orcus and the fireball blast, delayed fireball at that, was directed near my paladin character who was surrounded by 30 max hp trolls. The blast did 92 hp of damage, even the trolls that saved were toast! Nothing but smoking trolls left on that battlefield! The paladin's holy sword saved him and he was able to rejoin the rest of his party.
4. Of course, it was that same battle that I rolled a 1 for Bahamut's saving throw vs. the poison sting of Orcus' tail. He died. Oh, the randomness...
5. My brother is a notoriously bad dice roller. In one battle his 4th level ranger character spent 15 rounds fighting a single tasloi in I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden City. The rest of the party had already won the battle in round 10, after a few rounds of watching the ranger, the party magic-user walked over and asked if he could help. Many tears of laughter were shed after that. My brother eventually had his 8 year old son roll his dice for him and that broke his bad rolling streak.

Nice to hear other dice love and abuse stories. (And that I'm not the only one that hoards these things)
Years ago in college, one of my friends came into my room with a purple Crown Royal bag in his hand. I eyed it up and asked him what was in it. As it turns out, he explained that one of his old roommates had moved far away and left these "weird things from that game you play". It was a bag of old dice! Some of the well loved dice from the basic set in there, as well as some old un-crayon'd crystaly ones. It was such a pleasant present.
I thought I'd share a few of my favorite colors, though they don't look half as pretty as they should because the scan didn't turn out too well. Especially with the nebula dice (black and teal) and the "circus" colored die, which looks white in the photo. Anyone have any odd ones? The oddest ones I have would have to be a bone-style die, a d5, a
d3
, and one of those d100's that never stops rolling. But anyhow, I currently have been playing with the pink set.
Paul- Orcus killed Bahamut? Wow. What a roll that must have been!
Waterdeep? Never heard of it.

My best
d20
is this one I have from when I started playing around 1989, it's crystal clear (transparent even) with black lettering. Easy to lose, and even went diving in a swimming pool once (man it was HARD to find) while we played on a friends patio.
I still use it to crit people to this day.
