Hi Guys,

Here's a little challenge for those of you with Dragon Issue #126.  What's wrong with the cover art?

Please let me know if this has been discussed before (noticed before).

Can you post a link to the cover art. I have not been able to find one of any measurable size online and mine is packed away in a box somewhere.

The arrow is on the wrong side of her bow.

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

I do not have a link to the cover art. Sorry.

Deadlord - look a little harder.  It's not just that the arrow is on the wrong side of the bow.

The arrow's quill is aqua ( at least in the pic I'm looking at ) while all her other ones are red?

Here is a link to an auction that just ended.  Not the best but may help.

Daimajin,

You are right about the quill feathers being aqua instead of red.  However, I would equate that to the arrow being somehow magical.  Not the mistake I was looking for.

Deadlord is on the right track.  Look at her hand and how she is getting ready to draw the bow.  For this archer I think the arrow is on the right side.

Okay,

Deadlord is correct.  After looking at the art one more time, I am wrong to think that the bow is in the wrong hand.  The hand holding the bow is gloved and the hand drawing the bow is not, which makes sense.  You just do not see to many left-handed archers.

Sorry for leading everyone down the wrong path.

The arrow is on the wrong side.

technically, that is correct of course BUT...in reality, is it wrong?

shes just drawn an arrow but the monster is upon her and she is maybe panicking now and hasnt had the time to prepare properly for a shot let....her whole balance is wrong and everything...

so doesnt necessarily mean its wrong :D

it IS a really cool picture tho, isnt it?

Al,

Yeah, I just love the art work of the early Dragon Magazines (1-150).  Thought I had found something wrong with the art.  No so sure now.  The arrow is on the wrong side.  And her balace did suggest to me that the bow was in the wrong hand.  But your point is valid as well.

By the way, How is England today?

Al,

The weather here in Indy is going down hill fast.  Very cold in the 30's F today and windy.  No snow yet, though.

Try not to fall on your backside on the 7 am run.  I used to run - when I was in the army.  I do not run anymore.

Speaking of freezing, that's what's really wrong with the cover art.  Nobody sensible would go adventuring in that outfit in the snow, the monster isn't her biggest fear at this point -- hypothermia is.

deimos3428,

Could not agree with you more on that winter clothing part.   However, that theme is very pervasive throughout fantasy art.

Interesting that the critter is popping through the ice or snow and it already has three arrows in it and two in the back. Must be the legendary burrowing undead.

Actually, Toronto has the second mildest weather in all of Canada, after Vancouver...it gets much, much worse in the rest of the country. ;)
